My GP surgery has just changed hands and they now have a booking system of online only. I'm quite PC literate but even I couldn't figure it out. You have to choose your symptons from long list but mine (a very common one) not there so you can't go any further. Spoke to reception and 3 of then couldn't find it either. I told them that if they couldn't do it then what chance do the rest of us stand especially the elderly and those whose first language is not English. Now if you have an "inverted nipple" you are good to go but high pressure is a no no. They agreed with me and said their IT people would look into it. Good news is they have phoned me and told me my sympton is now on the list. But now even though the doctor has told me to book a follow up appointment in a months time I've been told I can only request it online 2 days before!!! So if you didn't have high blood pressure you will have after trying to book an appointment. You have my sympathy. My surgery asks you to fill in a load of boxes with the problem. There isn’t a list of symptoms thank goodness. But the point you make is important. How do people with limited IT skills manage? It took me a while to get the hang of it and I’m ok with computer, not brilliant. But what I’m thinking is how do you know what your symptoms are? The one you have that might be the key or help to diagnosis is the one you don’t know about but shows up in a way a person to person talk would show up. A doctor looking at you, seeing how you move, get up from a chair, the colour of your skin, your hard breathing etc would see symptoms you just haven’t bought about. Surgeries have become bureaucratic, tick box exercises, ‘scientific’ and careless. Yes, careless in both senses of the word. I’ve had plenty of experience with doctors. I’ve been very lucky with most and treatments but I can tell ya a few stories….

I just need to vent.
I have been suffering from tooth pain for too long now. There wasn't a NHS dentist with capacity until very recently. I had my assessment last week. Two bad wisdom teeth need to be removed. That is scheduled for 21st November.
The past 24 hours have been hell.
Constant pain not touched by any over the counter meds.
I finally broke down and contacted 111 as there is no other option.
But because it is tooth related they can't help
Anything dental has to be done through NHS Dentistry which has zero out of hours provision. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.
I have to contact my surgery when it opens at 8am and hope.
I am shaking from the pain. At my wit's end.
Any other pain and 111 would help. But because it is tooth related they won't. Even though the pain has spread to my eye socket and down into my neck.
What is the point of emergency healthcare that won't treat part of the body? How has this huge gap in the system been allowed to be created and maintained?
I am struggling beyond words. Just don't know what to do

A friend of mine had an emergency tooth problem, called 111 and they put him in touch with emergency dentist at a hospital. Maybe it depends on where you are. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Hope you are okay OxfordSimon. My main point of concern would be if an infection is left untreated it could cause serious side effects on someone's health and possibly long term issues.
My dentist retires in two weeks time and my planned checkup for mid December has been cancelled and typically since then a filling cracked. No pain but still need to find a new dentist, my second cousin is a dentist but she lives all the way up in York I might have to pull in a favour via her mum if I cannot find a new dentist.
I guess if parents are registered with a dentist then their children can be too as it seems to be the adults who can never find a dentist. You cannot attend a dental hospital like a general A and E certainly here in Birmingham.

Obvious suggestion but try googling “emergency dental care *your town/city*”. For example Manchester refers people to the university dental hospital where they train students and need real patients. Might be worth a try. Appalling service from 111 though. It says on their website that they refer dental emergencies to the necessary service if your dentist is closed.
Re doctors referral systems I wanted to ask a question about the covid booster vaccination. Unbelievably it wasn’t on the list of conditions so I used the General Enquiries/ Reception option. Got a text back from some numpty saying he couldn’t answer my question as he wasn’t a doctor. He didn’t ASK a doctor to reply, just told me he couldn’t help. Useless..

My dentist advised calling 111!
There isn't a dedicated dental hospital in Oxford sadly. The John Radcliffe has a dental department but I am told there is a 2 month wait for emergency extractions!

Do normal hospitals not provide emergency dental treatment any more, then? Admittedly I hvaen't needed this for years (& after that my brilliant NHS dentist became Denplan/fully private only, so I bit the bullet and signed up in order to stick with him), but one of my teeth fell apart on a night duty some years ago and the local hospital did an excellent temporary repair for me - and on a Sunday morning.

With so many announcements for spring / summer programming over the last few days, it's time to fire up the Excel spreadsheet and spend a couple of hours booking stuff for 2024 (the 2024 diary is looking very sparse at the moment). I just hope the trains will be running!

Hope things have at least settled down due to the antibiotics & re emergency hospital treatment, when I had mine, it wasn't a dental hospital - think these are indeed few & my nearest would have been in London & not open on a Sunday anyway - but the nearest normal NHS hospital, so it was like going to A & E, but without the wait.

My niece has just told me her husband is having his first book published tomorrow. It's showing on a lot of websites including WH Smiths & Amazon etc. However Amazon have printed the photo & bio of a different Daniel Robinson. The book is "The Good Doctor". It isn't the sort of book I normally read. - It is historical & about Austwitz & Dr Mengele but it's family so I guess I'll buy it.

For any of you living in USA - there is a pilot kids show going out in February with a sesame style puppet. It's a science show called"Blast from the Past" & my youngest grandson is in it. He was so excited & he got paid !

I had the Capital Jingle Ball on in the background whilst eating my dinner tonight and have a couple of observations. Of the section I watched I'd only ever heard of S Club 7/5. There was a DJ on but surely he is just playing something that's already been recorded so is he just pretending to push buttons and move dials? A girl in little blue shorts and a polo shirt that must have shrunk in the wash. I think she forgot she was meant to be pretending to sing live as most of the time she was dancing around with the hand held mic nowhere near her mouth or even her head! Then she asked everyone to jump up and down and I feared we would see small children crashing to the arena floor who were jumping up and down on level 4 of the o2 which is high and very very narrow steps.
I feel so old.

Tate McRae was the girl in the shorts and shrunken shirt. I've noticed her name in the charts but have never listened to her music.

Today I found that in 62 invoices for one customer: - 46 had no purchase order quoted on the invoices, so they were rightfully rejected by the customer. - 30 had the wrong due date on, and needed extending.

Spending some time with my 4yr old niece and introducing her to the classic Christmas film “The Muppets Christmas Carol”. So far she is enjoying it (thankfully). A fantastic film for the kids and the big kids!

Flippin awful day. Supposed to be seeing Crazy for You followed by Dear England. Sadly our train terminated part way to London. Change of train required but next train too full and wouldn’t allow anyone to get on, next train the same. Resigned to not seeing C4U just take an easy trip into Waterloo for DE. But no, coming back my train is now being brought forward so getting home after the show would be far too risky. Now sat at home moaning
