I saw this today, barely knowing anything about it beforehand.
A true story about 3 African-American women who were at the heart of Nasa's space programme, starring Octavia Spencer and Taraji P Henson and singer, Janelle monae.
I thought it was a beautiful film and dont mind admitting that I cried nemerous times during it. I prefered it to La La La, which is the emporers new clothes, IMO.
I doubt it will win any of the oscars it nominated for, but it deserves to be seen by everyone. A real, inspiring story based on amazing women.

A traditional biopic which I admit aren't really my thing. Some structural issues too. However, a very inspiring and important story that deserved to be told. Janelle Monae and Mahershala Ali were the standouts for me.

I didn't think it was out yet but I definitely want to see it when I can. It isn't but distributors often hold free previews. I've got tix to a later preview of this and am tempted, but might need to "save" this film to see after its release, at my more traditional time - before a matinee. There has certainly been a rush of great new films to start 2017.

I got the opportunity to see this at a preview in London on 16 November, with Q&A with director and co-writer Theodore Melfi and supporting actress Octavia Spencer (who plays Dorothy Vaughan). In some respects a very 'Hollywood' film but view it and it proves to have far more going for it than that. An inspiring story about, historically, the recent past of the 1950s and 1960s and the struggle in the US for civil rights. I believe it won awards at the Screen Actors Guild ceremony in the US recently—sidelined in news coverage terms by award winners' public comments about President Trump—and I wouldn't be surprised if it wins a few more at the forthcoming 'Oscars' annual get-together. Well worth seeing.

Surprised it only got nominated for 1 BAFTA - thought atleast one of the 3 leads should be nominated for best actress!! Should be under best picture too imo

Saw this today and thought it was excellent. I'm sure the story, characters, etc, have been tweaked to suit Hollywood but the end product is very entertaining and engaging. Another film, and so early in the year, which would undoubtedly make my "best of year" list were I to compile one - and it has been a very strong start so far, despite several supposedly big releases being underwhelming (Fences, Loving and Moonlight).

Oh opinions are funny things. I didn't even dislike this film but to me Moonlight is 100 times better. And I preferred Loving and Fences too.
