Not sure Translations warrants a return, but I'm always a fan of shows I don't have to see. Agreed on how disappointingly male it's all currently looking.

The return of Lucian Msamati is exciting, he was sensational in Amadeus. Interesting that they've brought Translations back - they refer to it as a sell-out but I don't recall there being that much hype around it? Certainly not on the scale of Follies or Amadeus, their other recent repeats.
I'll still book for most of the season though - got to make use of Entry Pass while I'm still young enough!

Translations? Meh, it was OK but definitely not worth a revival.
The rest of the season isn't bad but nothing stands out as THE play to see.

This announcement is very much on the lean side, with a couple of shows in each space, the Christmas shows haven’t even been announced.
If you missed Translations first time round as you struggled to get a ticket (cough, cough), it is worth catching as it is sensational.

Annie Baker returns to the Dorfman Theatre in October with the European premiere of her play The Antipodes, directed by Lila Neugebauer, making her NT debut. A play about stories and the people who tell them, The Antipodes follows the acclaimed runs of The Flick and John at the NT. The Antipodes features set and costume design by Chloe Lamford.

Not on that list but this was confirmed as well Annie Baker returns to the Dorfman Theatre in October with the European premiere of her play The Antipodes, directed by Lila Neugebauer, making her NT debut. A play about stories and the people who tell them, The Antipodes follows the acclaimed runs of The Flick and John at the NT. The Antipodes features set and costume design by Chloe Lamford. Now that is THE play to see in the season. |

Msamati is great, and along with Jennings, nominated for BAFTA which was announced today. For all the NTs faults it can still attract some top names and that is what ultimately gets money in. |

In the autumn there should also be this (announced last year):
Inua Ellams returns to the NT in the autumn with a new play,Three Sisters,after Chekhov, in a co-production with Fuel. Directed by Theatre Royal Stratford East Artistic Director, Nadia Fall, Three Sisters transports the play to 1960s Nigeria, before, during and after the Biafran Civil War. Originally commissioned by Metta Theatre. Hundreds of tickets for every performance available at £15.

Other than the already trailed Hansard (and im only interested in that because of the leads) yet another snoozefest at the NT! Maybe 2020 will be better but I'm not holding my breath.

Also noted that premium price tickets are now £84 Monday to Thursday evenings and matinees and £88 Friday and Saturday evenings. Prices slowly making their way to the £100 figure.

Oh God, I hadn't realised the National had jumped on the premium seats bandwagon. So annoying and really scandalous when it's subsidised. TBF The ROH is subsidised and they charge up to £200. The ACE funding only makes up a portion of their operation costs so the National has to make it up somehow. |
