After a successful 2016 season, I wonder what 2017 season will bring? We know that the much anticipated Angels in America and Follies is coming, so don't think they will do another musical. But what would you like to be seen done?

I am looking forward to seeing Olivia Coleman in Mosquitos as she is a great actress and I don't it know what it is about but it should be good.

Aside from Angels/Follies - Consent in the Dorfman appeals. I enjoyed the last two productions in the Dorfman and really like the space so will give it a try.

Okay guys I know there are a few shows coming up and I am personally looking forward to Ugly Lies The Bone with Kate Fleetwood.
In the New Year the National always does a big announcement for its next season programme, so wondering if anything anyone would like to see put on.
For me I would love to see a first class production of Tennessee Williams' Cat On A Hot Tin Roof or John Osbournes' Don't Look Back In Anger.

I absolutely echo that. I would also love to see a stunning production of Wild Duck and a completely new, refreshed, rejuvenated, modern version of West Side Story (similar to what was done to Carousel or Oklahoma).

Yay to West Side Story An Alan Bennett season would be nice but Hynter did stage quite of them previously so I doubt it will happen

Yay to West Side Story An Alan Bennett season would be nice but Hynter did stage quite of them previously so I doubt it will happen The problem with West Side Story is the rights holders will not allow any production of it that doesn't preserve the original choreography and staging so it would be very constraining for any director. It is almost a tradition that a "house dramatist" at NT doesn't get much of a look in under the next regime with the obvious exception of Sir David Hare who seems to be a fixture at the place (except when Trevor Nunn dropped him and Hare filled the newspapers with his whining). So I expect Sir David will have another treat for us next year.

Anything by Tennessee Williams is good - we're getting The Glass Menagerie. I think you mean John Osborne's Look Back in Anger - again anything by him would be welcome

In the past, he'd have led such a production there. Rufus is somewhat enamoured with Carol Ann Duffy at the moment so not too surprising she got the gig for a verbatim piece.

In the past, he'd have led such a production there. He also had the three Young Chekov plays there last year. The number of plays he has had staged at NT is approaching 20. I suppose Shakespeare has had more but no-one else comes close. One of his more amusing complaints when Nunn took over was "I don't even know him". I know the miserablist Norris won't do it but NT should assemble a top cast and do one of the best Feydeau farces.

Dominic Cooke's Follies next autumn is a project of just that nature so it could happen. Although I suppose a difference is that none of Feydeau's farces are known to anyone beyond a niche of fans.

He also had the three Young Chekov plays there last year. I'd forgotten that but it was a backdoor appearance as a transfer of a successful show from Chichester Festival Theatre which cleverly swerved the NT's need to produce its own successful classical drama.

I think part of the problem is that farce is looked down upon somewhat as a populist (dread word) theatre form (like melodrama) but of course One Man Two Guvnors was an example. Asking for a classic Feydeau farce from 100 years ago affords them a bit of an historical-interest intellectual fig leaf, it's not as if I'm asking for a 1950's Whitehall farce. John Cleese and Connie Booth studied Feydeau's plays in depth when they were planning Fawlty Towers, the best are formidable and intricate pieces of work.

Sondheim hated the Spanish dialogue production of WSS and now Laurents has died I wonder if it will ever see the light of day.
The odd production of the show has been done without without Robbins choreography, komische oper, Berlin was one of them. I wonder what a theatre has to do (sleep with) so they can change it ...

Plays on my wish list would include The Relapse - which I can imagine being absolutely joyous (with the right cast and high production values), Murder in the Cathedral (which I think is ripe for a modern production), Separate Tables (I know Rattigan was done to death so to speak recently - but this one didn't get a major revisiting)
I thoroughly enjoyed Andromache when Cheek by Jowl toured it in French a few years back - it still stands out as one of my all-time favourite productions. Would Racine (or Corneille) work in a great English translation? Only the National or RSC could try it.

Bloke on the train was having a loud conversation based on him having a discussion with the National in relation to writing something about Iain Duncan Smiths time in running benefits in the UK.
Seems an odd thing to lie about whilst on a train so maybe look out for that.

Anything with John Heffernan in it I would love to see an adaptation of Rattigan's Flare Path (but with one recently on tour it's unlikely) and Master & Margarita which is my favourite book ever and somehow I managed to miss every single production of it (exept one in Russia with a loathed with all my heart).

i would love to see The Wimslow Boy, but this be very unlikely as they've just done Deep Blue Sea.
Still fixated about doing a first class revival of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, love to see Carey Mulligan play Cat, it is the the holidays week you are allowed to dream.
