I know we have quite a few threads discussing the past year's theatre, plans for 2017 and so on, but I'm wondering when the theatre-going year ends for others here?
Previously I've only had to consider shifts and public transport over the holiday season, but this year my December theatre-going has been first reduced by the Southern strikes (this week I've already had to miss plays I won't be able to re-schedule) and is now coming to an untimely end as I'll be on sick leave for the rest of the month.
Not being a fan of traditional panto (to be fair, I do try again at intervals, as I did last year), the end of any year is usually a bit of a thin time, but there are ever more alternative panto productions so this year I'd actually have been spoilt for choice if only I had been able to travel; there are also several musicals (e.g. Soho Cinders, She Loves Me) I'd have loved to see.
So when do others give up for the year and for those who aren't fans of panto, is this always a quiet time or when you're too busy doing other things?

As usual, I'm in London over New Year's (I know, it's terribly busy and crowded, but most days have two show slots so I can make the most of it) and my last show this year will be School of Rock at 6pm on New Year's Eve.
The first show in 2017 will be Matilda at 3pm on New Year's Day.

What a wonderful opportunity, Michael - have fun!
My last play would have been on Thursday 29 but a couple of years ago I also went to a one (a matinee) on NYE, which was not as bad a day to be travelling as I'd feared, though as I hurried back to Victoria, the barriers were already going up all over central London for the evening crowds.

I'd usually go to at least a couple of shows between Christmas and New Year but this year I'll be in the States, landing back in the UK early on the 30th... then I have The Rover in Stratford that evening, followed by The Kite Runner and Cinderella (Palladium) on New Year's Eve. Then I sleep.

I'm celebrating in New York this time so my last show of the year will be Sleep No More at the McKittrick on the 31st followed by their New Year's Eve party. Then I'm starting the theatrical 2017 with The Great Comet on the 1st.

After She Loves Me and Peter Pan Goes Wrong later today, I'm finishing the year's theatregoing with Grease on 28th December in Leicester and Strictly Ballroom on 30th December in Leeds.
I usually have a theatre sabbatical in January to recharge the batteries and 2017 will be no different.

Gosh, I'm really impressed not only by how late in the year others are still going to the theatre but also how much some people are packing into the last few hours! Not to mention making an early start to 2017. Even if this were a normal year's end for me, my paltry efforts would be put to shame - must up my game next year...

I'm being good, I'm only seeing one show on New Year's Eve then going to a house party. As things currently stand...

Hope you are fully recovered soon showgirl! I am done for the year (family responsibilities etc etc) but always reward myself with a nice day out in London after the festivities in early January! I pat myself on the back at having provided a splendid Christmas to all concerned and go solo to something...having coffee/snacks of my choice and enjoying the sense of freedom! This year it is a cheeky little Friday matinee of All the Angels at Wanamaker theatre on Jan 6th, after hearing good reports on here...not my usual sort of thing but candles and music sound enchanting! Have a good Christmas and get back to theatre soon!

Three more trips this year for us. The Dresser on Friday, Katherine Jenkins (my husband's pick) on the 27th, and Simon Callow's Christmas Carol on the 29th.

First: sorry to hear you're unwell, showgirl - hoping for better health for you in 2017!
Unfortunately I've been landed with on call cover for my organisation over New Year, so none of my usual end-of-year theatre gallivanting! So my last show of the year may turn out to have been This House on Wednesday just past.
That said, I may try to squeeze in a visit to The Dresser before Xmas Eve...

Thank you for the good wishes, Latecomer and jeanhunt. Certainly looking forward to catching up a.s.a.p. though at present, my main concern is whether the ongoing industrial action on Southern Rail will scupper more of my bookings in 2017, as I have lots planned for January.
This year did end on a high for me as on Saturday I had a day trip to Bath specifically to see the last matinee of Trouble In Mind at the Ustinov Studio. Well worth it - and a new theatre for me, if it counts, as I had only previously visited the main house. Even if that production transfers (it deserves to), I have missed so much well-reviewed work there which has not had a longer life that it will have been worth the risk.

This year it is a cheeky little Friday matinee of All the Angels at Wanamaker theatre on Jan 6th, after hearing good reports on here...not my usual sort of thing but candles and music sound enchanting! I had exactly the same idea, but didn't wait for January. So after a work Christmas lunch last week, sneaked off to a matinee of All the Angels. Thought it was beautiful, gloriously sung, well cast, and just enough story to be interesting, but not enough to overwhelm the music. Came out of the theatre and walked along the sparkling South Bank feeling like Scrooge at the end of A Christmas Carol. Despite the dreadful seating I realise I am starting to become addicted to these choral pieces at the Sam Wanamaker.

I think I've already seen the last show of the year (The Secret Garden in Washington DC) unless I see something last-minute when I come back to NYC from spending Christmas with my family in California. We'll see!

OH says it's just because I can't go that I'm imagining it, but in the last few days I seem to have received a record number of unprecedentedly good offers for productions I wanted to see anyway. Are theatres less busy in the run-up to Xmas, or are too many people having similar transport issues to mine, or is it really my imagination?

Given this is always the busiest time time of the year at work, Christmas concerts galore, my theatre going usually stops late November early December until January, but we managed to sneeze in a visit to the Billy Elliot tour last night though.

I've been receiving offers for super-cheap tickets for shows that I know are sold out in the new year, so I guess there must be a bit of a "help, no one is coming to see shows in the run up to Christmas" feeling in the air.
