I've dived quite late into this show, and honestly, having seen s1 and half of s2, it's proving to be a very fun ride. I like being entertained and educated all at once. I'm definitely not a royalist, but this is very enjoyable. Whatever people's view on it, it cannot be argued that the acting is some of the finest ever put to screen. Seriously! Claire deserved that award, her Liz was exceptional. While I'm excited to see how the older royals will fair, I'm keen to see older/recast Martin Charteris. Why? Well a) this will be the season when {Spoiler - click to view} he finally becomes the queen's private secretary (in 1972, after nearly two decades serving as assistant private sec under Michael Adeane) and b) his new actor is a dish... and I'll leave it at that.

I only got into this series last Christmas as there wasn’t much on tv. I have to say, I’m not normally one for binge watching box sets, but after a few episodes in S1 I was absolutely hooked and ended up getting through both series in about 3 days. I just thought the writing was absolutely fantastic and the cast totally mesmoring on screen. I thought how they tackled the social issues of the periods and their impact on both the royals as well as how the various Governments tackled them was spot on You got enough information about them without getting bogged down in detail.
With the new castings, I’m really looking forward to the new season. Hopefully the writing and subjects tackled will be as equally exciting.

I've never felt so sexually conflicted and confused in my life.

Strangely enough, I can actually see her being perfect casting as Baroness T . . .

I mean she's no Fenella Woolgar, but I agree, assuming this is true, she'll do an incredible job.

When do we get the Olivia Coleman series starting, anyone know? No confirmed date yet as far as I’ve found digging around on the internet unfortunately. Though I would imagine the back end of the year if previous air dates are anything to go by.

recent articles have said November Thanks. They are clever at keeping the programme in the limelight.

As a friend of mine pointed out, you've got to worry a bit about a man who looks over at his girlfriend and goes 'you know what love you'd make a perfect Margret Thatcher'
(all jokes aside she's a fabulous actress who also gives excellent death stares, she'll be great)

Not sure what it says about the show but they do like casting American actors to play UK PMs!

I've seen online that Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark from Game of Thrones) is rumoured to play Diana in Season Four

In the Alan Yentob/James Graham programme, they mentioned that Graham has written an episode of The Crown. I wonder what they've given him.

Not sure what it says about the show but they do like casting American actors to play UK PMs! Well she did spend a good chunk of her childhood here and lives here now so pretty British as US actors go!

Not very informative i agree but one of Coleman’s best ‘looks’. I hope they are not going the break -the -fourth -wall route with stares to camera etc. Ugh.

I think we’re all supposed to squeal at the sight of OC in the queens frock. I’m 100% sure she is going to be very good in this but no matter how hard she tries it will always be Olivia Colman playing HRH and we will never be able to forget that it’s Olivia. Success and over-exposure is a double edged sword.
Prove me wrong Olivia.

I hope they are not going the break -the -fourth -wall route with stares to camera etc. Fleabag infection? Gentleman Jack had a touch of it but as it was loosely a diary adaptation it might have been coincidence. (Btw, I did see someone say the Guardian's obsession with Fleabag is because it gets articles higher placed in Google searches.)

Apparently James Graham is scripting some of the episodes this series (oh, I've just scrolled back and seen it already mentioned -sorry!)
