I know we had a thread on great service from a theatre a while ago but I couldn't find it. Apologies for starting a new one...
I telephoned the Union Theatre yesterday and spoke to Neil who is managing it with Sasha Regan. I explained that I wasn't able to attend the show this weekend and that I wouldn't be able to get to it before the end of the run. All our time this weekend will be taken up with sorting out the mess, insurance, police interviews etc after I had disturbed burglars in our home yesterday. As a result they attacked me, leaving me cut, bruised, keyless, carless, and with a home covered in broken glass, and minus some cash and a few sentimental treasures.
This I explained to Neil, who listened to me blubbing like a baby, told me everything was okay, and that he'd give me comps to another show in the new year. (We'd already booked/paid for out tickets to Soho Cinders.)
It's true I find the venue scruffy, but Neil's sympathetic approach and kindness has redemed the place for me.
Thank you, Union Theatre.
I hope others who might find themselves in tricky situations similar to mine might receive the same level of service.

Good grief - wishing you a speedy recovery from your ordeal and, if there's any justice, of your belongings too, though I suspect that's rather unlikely

Good grief, caiaphas what a dreadful, shocking experience and I join with everyone else in sending good wishes.
Well done Union Theatre for realising that a bit of sympathy and understanding at such a difficult time makes a huge difference to the person on the receiving end.

Goodness, how shocking and terrifying for you, Caiaphas. Here's hoping you manage to get over it all as quickly as possible (and that the miscreants get their just desserts), although the shock will probably linger for a while. The words of kindness from the Union Theatre must have been a real blessing.

I have been in a disturbed burglary and it is far from pleasant, you feel totally violated and to make it worse our friend was physically assaulted, as what has happened wasn't bad enough.
I really feel for you and hope you get your life back on track soon and put this behind you, what happened wasn't personal at you, it was personal at your possessions and unfortunately you happened to be there.
I hope they catch the bastard and he goes to prison for a long time.
On a side note and in the spirit of this thread I had an equally pleasant experience with the Union Theatre today, my planned matinee performance of Ragtime was cancelled and I had a phone call from todaytix at 1pm, the Union Theatre allowed me to move the evenings performance forward to this afternoon, which got me out of a hole.

What a horrible experience - I second (third?) the hope that the bastards are caught swiftly. Glad to hear the Union were kind and helpful.

Just read this - so sorry to hear this, Calaphas. I also think that it's rather lovely that your instinct was to put in a good word for the Union Theatre when you have so much else to think about. Lots of good people around - and you're obviously one of them! Hope your sentimental treasures are found/returned - that's the worst.

Hope you're ok, or at least on the way to it. That sounds awful. And at times of awfulness the smallest kindness can go a long way, so I'm glad there was that. And I hope some cheering theatre happens for you soon.

So sorry to hear Caiaphas, utterly horrible but am touched by all the responses on here, as you say we don't really know each other but generally we're a nice enough bunch and the kindness of strangers is perhaps sometimes more touching. Hope you're feeling back on your feet soon and glad you had a good theatre experience at least.

Caiphas, sorry to hear your awful news. I hope you can soon realise you are fine and that S=== happens but you can get back to the good stuff. Don’t let them leave any mark on you.
PS These thoughts maybe too soon but I’ve been there and realise it takes time. Just this weekend I was looking for a CD and I remembered when I last had it! Put it down to us all living longer, we’ll all have to experience more bumps along the way. It’s not the bump it’s how you remember it, that’s important.
(I hope that doesn’t seem glib at the moment.)
I delighted you opened this thread and I’d also like to say my own thanks.
Last week we were on our way to The Royal Opera house with a frined who was very excited as she’d never been before. Unfortunately she took a nasty fall in a poorly paved temporary walkway just outside, put there by Westminster Council because of roadworks. We helped her inside the ROH and several staff members sprung to our aid during their busiest period. - A Lady usher found her a seat, a glass of water and a first aider. - The First Aider listened! And was most helpful once it was determined that she could not climb stairs. - The front of house manager arrived, as did a wheelchair and we were whisked off to The Royal Box just as the performance started. The procession could not have been more efficiently carried out if it was HRH herself.
I did discretely wave to everyone and enjoyed my 10 mins “in the Sun”. Sadly, however once the adrenaline had worn off she realised how much pain she was in and we had to leave. She actually had a broken ankle and needed stiches in her knee. It is a small consolation that she did get inside, and to sit there won’t happen that often!
I have written to the CE of ROH and I’m happy to tell everyone who will listen. Truly exemplary service.
