Also The Sun used to turn up on celebrity' doorsteps and out the for being Gay, ruined a lot of relationships with there close family. Glad they don't do it now. A top tip which caught me out last year - avoid 29th June to 2nd July for a trip to Chichester if you are planning to drive and/or stay over. It's the Goodwood Festival of Speed just outside the town, which causes traffic chaos and also means all the local hotels are far more expensive than usual. www.goodwood.com/flagship-events/festival-of-speed/Absolutely Even the trains from Victoria are packed, which makes them more uncomfortable and besides full of hooray henrys pissed on cheap champagne. This is the same as glorious Goodwood, if not another date to avoid. |

Coriolanus again at one point as he wasn't entirely happy with the Peter Hall production he was in (which was excellent actually) All of us cheapskates who bought the on-stage seats and ended up taking part in th e play would agree  . Serves you right! 😊 |

I saw it twice, once on-stage and once from centre stalls - both good. But McKellen hated having the audience on stage, he had friends come backstage after and say "That woman's dress !!" He was due to repeat the role for Deborah Warner at NT but then she changed plan (she intended to direct both Lear and Coriolanus) and he did Richard III with Eyre instead. |

So what happened on those on stage seats? Oh we didn't just stay in the seats, we had on-stage acting to do too. Lynette was in the cast one night too I think. In one scene I recall my group were on the receiving end of dog's abuse from McKellen, not entirely in character as it turned out. |

So the leaks were true. Not very exciting really. I don't understand why they have put McKellen in the Minerva when he would have sold out the main house reading the phone book. This will be the hottest ticket by far. I wonder if they are looking to transfer this into London - but do we really need another Lear? I hope so! never seen McKellan do Lear and I would dearly like to, but not sure if I can face the approx 6 hour round trip to Chichester. |

Surprised to see you quoting the Sun Phantom? Toxic that rag. I know we all have a go at the Mail and it's politics but the scum!! Rupert Murdoch, Hillsborough, hacking phones of the McCann's, Stephen Lawrence's family and Milly Dowler amongst many, many others.
Thought it would be preaching to the converted 'ere fella.
I would never buy it for all the reasons you give, but did come across their review online and read it, because it is outright strange that this paper reviews an Ibsen play at Chichester, especially when they babe no track record of reviewing, same as The Mirror (which I buy). It didn't happen to be next to a story about a celeb who had taken out a super injunction, did it? The Scum was very upset about not being allowed to tattle on various celebs' very private lives, and kept dropping hints-by-story-placement about their identities - Bonneville was rumoured to be one of the targets. |

There are a very few direct trains but generally you change at Fareham or Southampton.
For accommodation outside termtime, you can stay in university halls of residence (with breakfast) less than a quarter hour's walk away. About ten years ago, I stayed there during Glorious Goodwood, so there was good availability at that peak tourist time!
