I know they dont officially announce the festival season til Feb, but has anyone heard what Daniel Evans will be putting on in his first year? You would expect Sondheim and maybe Shakespeare given his previous record😉

You would expect Sondheim and maybe Shakespeare given his previous record😉 Maybe not Shakespeare, so soon after Much Ado and The Other One. And at Sheffield, he saved Sondheim until his second year. Daniel Evans in Chichester is the perfect combination for the reclamation of Ivor Novello. |

Hopefully not another Emma Rice-style debacle when the Chichester board discover he was serious in his interview about mounting his complete Sarah Kane retrospective on the main stage.

Shaw would be good, one of the less frequently done ones like Devil's Disciple. Evans loves Sondheim and so does Chichester so will be surprised if he doesnt put one on. Will also be interesting what calibre of actor he attracts to the Sussex coast.

I've never been to Chichester, and it's a long way for me, but I do miss Daniel Evans in Sheffield, and I love a Sondheim, so I'd travel for that...

Wasn't there talk about bringing in the Broadway production of Pippin? I personally think it sounds unlikely for Chichester to bring in a production that's already ran commercially on Broadway (and not create their own unique production), but I'm sure that's what people have said on here.

Surely that stage is just aching for Camelot, A Little Night Music and Arcadia?! Arcadia was done at Chichester in 2000 - maybe too soon for a revival? ALNM was done in 1989- I gather it was a Marmite production which quite a lot of people loathed.
I'm not aware of Camelot being done before at Chichester. I've only seen the film and it's not a favourite of mine but the musical does seem to have its fans on here.

Isn't it Company that is ripe for revival? Wasn't the last major one the Mendes one at the Donmar in the early 90s? I could see Evans playing the lead in that.

Def never been done so am crossing fingers! ALNM transferred to west end where i saw it and liked it but that was almost 30 years ago! |

No, but it is pointless putting Sonheim name forward, then promptly putting this in the plays section. It does play havoc if you want it to search for this thread at a later date. So the moderators might consider moving this to the General section as it covers both plays and musicals. They're going to do Pippin, it was mentioned on Elaine Paige show, that's not a show you listen to for gossip. If they're going to do Sondheim and this will not be in the same year as Pippin, but why not do the recent revival of West Side Story that was on Broadway 4 years Back with the Spanish lyrics in-tact, this would have an excellent chance of a West End transfer as it is a much loved musical by the British public. Generally Chichester done American musicals and European Plays, so glad that changed this last year with the revival of Half A Sixpence. Aspects of Love would be an inspired choice for the Mineva. Play wise nothing has been done by Neil Simon since the Sunshine Boys in the West End several years back, so a good production of his play could easily get a transfer to the West End and Broadway. |

I am not going to challenge you on your 'Simon' remark, especially when you make a claim, but then do not validate it with any reasoning. |

No we aren't at the Oxford Union, but when you make a dismissive remark about someones suggestion it would be good to dignify it, or other board members may just get the impression you don't know what you are talking about, same principle operates whether you are on a message board or the Oxford Union.

Well, of the suggestions so far, Starlight Express would be the least unappealing to me, which is still damning it with faint enthusiasm. Surely there must be a decent musical which hasn't been done in the last 15 - 20 years, and certainly not in the last few? CFT is usually good for plays, with a mixture of intriguing new work and revivals of modern classics, so I shall wait in hope, but so far no-one here has shown any interest in those.

What about Jerusalem? I'm sure Mark Curry said he wanted a shot at it again?
Did the new guy do My Fair Lady? It was down up north a couple of years ago but not sure if by him. This would obviously be a winner in Chi

I would love/think it's very apt right now if he revived The Fire Raisers (or The Arsonists as the RC recently re-named it). This was alsways my fav play growing up and would love to see it done
