I've just seen Hansel and Gretel at ROH. My last show, or -in this case opera- of the year

Starting off the New Year with all the things I didn't get round to seeing last year...
Oliver! (Leeds Playhouse) - Tuesday
Then off to London...
Xmas Carol (not quite the complete set for this as I never saw Rhys Ifans version) and Infinite Life on Tuesday. Totoro (rpt visit since I saw it first time round) and Guys and Dolls Wednesday The Witches Friday Rock n' Roll and Macbeth on Saturday (having finally got my fingers working quickly enough last Saturday to get a ticket for the latter).
Plus, since this a long London trip, lots of Galleries.

‘Bring Me the Horizon’ on Friday in Birmingham. They really impressed me at Download so I’m giving them a go in a (slightly) more intimate setting.

Despite 12th night being last Friday, tonight I shall be White Christmasing, and gracing the world-famous Crucible Theatre with my presence.

Soulwax at L’Aeronef in Lille on Tuesday: the forecast is -3 and I don’t think it’s going to finish much before midnight so I’m going to ensure I have at least three layers of warm clothing with me 🫤 Weather is nearly as crap here but I’m still seeing halfwits wearing shorts on the streets at night each night this week🤨

Alan Cumming at Drury Lane on Monday. What did you think? I went and really have mixed feelings. (I was surprised that at least 3 people in my row and 1 in the row ahead left at the interval.)

Alan Cumming at Drury Lane on Monday. What did you think? I went and really have mixed feelings. (I was surprised that at least 3 people in my row and 1 in the row ahead left at the interval.) I quite enjoyed it but it didn't have any "wow" factor. The stories were interesting and fun although, as he was on a few TV programmes Last week to promote the concert, several of the stories I had already heard. I thought his singing voice was a bit odd though as he seemed to adopt different accents and in a few cases different accents in the same song. Glad I went though but I wouldn't make a return visit.

The stories were interesting and fun although, as he was on a few TV programmes Last week to promote the concert, several of the stories I had already heard. That's pretty similar to my reaction. I thought the second act was better than the first, and the mash-up of 'How Did We Come to This' and 'Maybe This Time' was fabulous and deserving of the standing ovation it got. The overall show, on the other hand, didn't deserve one. I also thought that he's awfully in love with himself.

Due entirely to so many positive reviews on TheatreBoard, I'm currently on my way to see Oliver at the not even slightly famous Leeds Playhouse.
It 'only' takes 1 hour 18 minutes on the slow train. ☹️
