Sorry, I don't remember (and now feel bad if I'm scaring you off.) Just be forewarned that it could happen so you aren't surprised if does require some teamwork, etc. Thanks for the warning

I imagine it's something to do with seeing how you deal with working in a team, handling unexpected situations, communicating untraditional information to strangers, and solving problems creatively, but sometimes I do fear that these exercises sort of obscure their original point. It's exactly that. Don't worry too much though, my ATG interview was in February and all of the tasks were related to the job. You need to show you can use initiative and be proactive and aren't looking to work FOH just to see shows for free (even if you are - dress it up a bit!). I was the only one there though that had a non peformance background - one of the interviewees had been an ensemble member in the show that had literally just closed in the theatre we were applying to work in!

One of my previous ATG usher interviews involved being given job titles (doctor, vet, priest etc) and deciding who you'd throw out of a boat first to survive and in what order and why. Also really random. ATG are big on ice breaker/group task type things in their interviews.

The best answer would probably be "no one, we should all work together as a team to make sure we all survive"

If you get one of those what 7 items do you salvage to survive when your plane crashes in the Alps questions - you take the alcohol and leave the condoms. Or is it the other way around?

The correct thing to do is to throw everyone else out. That way there's nobody left who could decide to throw you out. "But we're, like, five metres from shore. The water's little more than ankle deep." "Shut up and drown, you uncooperative bastard!"

In these games, I think you can only choose condoms if you aren't going to use them as condoms, i.e. instead use them as flotation devices, water carriers, protective gloves. In real life though just use them as condoms. Stay safe, kids!

The fact that alcohol keeps you warm is a silly myth, it will only make you freeze to death faster. I'd rather have condoms, even if I don't think Grindr works on the Alps.

Or the one who was using their mobile phone? (I assume they all booked single seats, so no leverage there.)

Because you feel warm you won't take any other measures in order to stay warm, which means you'll freeze

I should have put a winky face after my alcohol and condoms post. Personally I'd take both and have a party but no, don't take the alcohol and do take the condoms.

That makes sense in recruitment of ushers, who'll sell programmes for use as fans and ice cream tubs to be used as percussion instruments.

ATG have an ad for FOH at the Piccadilly on their website at the moment. Doesn't say what the pay is but it's described as 30hrs a week "casual". The ATG venues in Manchester advertise their vacancies on Facebook, might just be specific to Manc though. Very interesting. Thank you One problem though, you don't want to live in Manchester

There was a group interview (about 15 of us) where you had to do role plays, an on the spot task to see how you worked in a team and a basic numeracy test; how much change from £20 for 3 ice creams and a glass of wine sort of thing. Was there an endurance test where you have to hold up two mini bottles of vino up above your head whilst wearing a tray full of ice creams and beaming into the middle distance? You all start at the same time and the last one with their arm still in the air gets the job?

One of the ushers at The Libertine last night looked so sad with her tray of ice creams. It was rather more moving than the second act.

People say it is incredible easy to get a job as an usher, is this true? Yes, if you have good usherly qualities. If you don't, then I'd hope it's not so easy.
