Well the thread title almost gave me a heart attack - as if 2016 hasn't been bad enough already.
Seems fair enough - it always seemed like a big ask given her age. It would have been nice to see her in a more dramatic role but Blithe Spirit was a great send off anyway.

It doesn't say at all that she won't appear in the west end with it. Says that she can't handle being on her own in New York. She lives in Ireland. Also if you go to her Twitter she has posted something about never giving up acting |

No it doesn't explicitly say it but I think we can see the inference.
I did smile at the idea that Dame Angela is left to fend for herself whilst performing in NYC. "Chomping through snow" in a pair of wellies, unaided indeed.

Her repeat fee's from Murder She Wrote must be huge! My flatmate is a huge fan- he has over 80 episodes on my sky planner!

 You do you Ange! I never got to see Blythe Spirit so no Lansbury action for me, but if any of us are still working at her age we'll be doing very well. More than anyone could expect. |

Friend of mine just posted a wonderful clip on Facebook of the dame singing Beauty and the Beast at a 25th Anniversary show. Can't find a way of copying it to here unfortunately. |

So glad I forked out for a top price ticket to see her in Blithe Spirit from the 3rd row of the stalls. I rarely pay full price for anything but I had never seen her on stage before and somehow knew it would be my last chance.

Speaking of octogenarian dames I saw Joan Collins in her one woman show last week. Well, one woman and her husband to be precise, as Percy was on hand helping to field audience Q&A.
Ok, she's not been a great actress a la Lansbury or Dench but she has certainly filled a niche very successfully. She was utterly charming, witty, self deprecating and with so many interesting anecdotes about her career. And my god the woman looks amazing.
Still touring at 83. What an example these women are.

Didn't get to see Ms Lansbury in Blithe Spirit but I can quite smugly say that I saw her in Gypsy many moons ago and she was superb, probably more so that Imelda Staunton but just by and ostrich plume rather than a whisker. I saw her at least 3 times at the Piccadilly Theatre and was shell shocked by her Rose's Turn each time. I later her saw her in Sweeney Todd which again was a tour de force - I remember coming out of the theatre feeling absolutely drainedby her performance and by Len Cariou´s.
By the way not to be pedantic but ... Gwyneth Paltrow's Mum's maiden name isn't Blythe, that's her first name. Her surname is Danner.
