I don't actively seek out spoilers, but I'm not too bothered if I do come across them. I'm a bit bored of the results show pretending that it's Sunday when everyone knows it's prerecorded. I personally would prefer a shorter live results show later on Saturdays, but I know I might be in the minority there. It used to be didn't it? Or am I imagining that. I love the Sunday show which is why I'm never bothered about getting the spoiler. I agree though that the pretence is annoying. With everyone remembering to have to say 'last night' etc. The judges slip up sometimes.

Yeah I like the Sunday show in general but it's just the pretence that's annoying as you said, especially when they don't bother to move the audience members around (although I know I'd hate to be moved if I were there!)

It is really daft to pretend that the results show is live too. Takes away from the actual liveness of the live show. I presume that they do it all in one go and intersect the prerecorded dance sequences. So just own up to the second show being recorded and shown the next evening which I suppose doubles the viiewing figures, I mean gets great figures on two nights running. If they take more care they can stop the 'leak' no? After all as we know The Mouse Trap has been running for years and I still don't know whodunnit 😂😂😂

Just a quick show of hands, please...
Am I the only person who is seriously irked by the existence of the 'Strictly Spoiler'? I don't see the point of being so obsessed with finding out the result before the Sunday night when it's broadcast. I've read through their site a few times the last couple of years and you'd swear some of the people on there would think they were Edward bloody Snowden. I really don't like how people feel it's so important that they know before everybody else.
What next? We have sites to find out who wins Bake Off after week one, or what's going to happen in the last episode of Doctor Foster before the first one's even aired? At least we've got a separate Spoiler thread this year so those of us who don't want to know can avoid it. What was incredibly annoying last year was someone's announcement: "Looks like the spoiler's in...." later on the Saturday evening. I used to feel like writing, "And..?" It was as if they wanted to be the first to tell us all. A couple of the results were hinted at which spoilt it for many of us.

No, sorry, I've read the spoiler for years and will continue to do so for as long as they keep up the ridiculous pretence that the Sunday show is live! It means that I don't have to care if I miss the results show or not - I just watch the pro dance on Youtube and avoid all the filler rubbish. I do think that forum has become ridiculous though - I used to regularly post there but I can't stand the self-righteous attitude of many of the people who post in the spoiler thread, so now I just drop in occasionally and look for the result on Sat night/Sun morning.

It was far better when the results show was live later on Saturday!

I mean, they know that we know, and we know that they know we know, so we all go along with it. And it's not as if it's life or death, is it? It's an entertaining dancing competition! They're just creating a bit of drama for us, making us wait for the results. There can't be one person who watches Strictly regularly that isn't aware of the 'pretence'. With regard to the results show being on Sundays now, it might have contributed to its rise in popularity over recent years. We all thought we wouldn't like it but clearly enough of us do . We all thought we wouldn't like it when Brucie retired, but we did. We're all wondering if it'll ever be the same without Len. But I reckon it'll be better than ever. They've hit upon a winning formula. And 'let's pretend' happens all the time in theatre and we are happy go along with it. Films... TV... it's all just make-believe.

We all thought we'd like it more when Bruce retired. (Feel a bit bad for saying it so soon after his death but it's true.) Also, as I said earlier, I'm quite optimistic now Len's gone. He could be a right grumpy old man and not in an endearing way.

He could be a right grumpy old man and not in an endearing way. "Errrr"? That belongs in the Biggest English Language Gripes thread. I think you'll find "we all" is a bit of a generalisation. Some preferred Bruce over Claudia. And Shirley will come up against those who preferred Len, whose Grumpy Old Man act was popular with a lot of viewers. They're all opinions. And not everyone's are the same...

I was just rewording your sentence beginning with 'we all.'

Which I qualified by adding "...but enough of us do" and "I reckon". (And it wasn't rewording as much as repeating.)

Which I qualified by adding "...but enough of us do" and "I reckon". (And it wasn't rewording as much as repeating.) They were both clearly separate to that sentence. Just because they were in the same paragraph doesn't mean that each sentence applies to the next. As for Len's 'act,' the mask slipped enough times to see his true colours, such a relief to see the back of him. I was originally a bit disappointed that Anton didn't get the job but the more I see of Shirley the more I like her. Although, all the names thrown into the ring to replace Len would no doubt have been an improvement, apart from (maybe) Karen Hardy.

Not absolutely sure but I think Striclty is the programme which grabs the most viewers over all the terrestrial channels. (It is what Morecombe and Wise used to be.) Add to that the thought that they think it is mainly women who watch it! It must be like a tantalising unavailable goldmine to advertisers.

Actually the Strictly audience skews older than many advertisers would like and women generally watch more TV than men so reaching them isn't that hard.
Even though Strictly is comfortably ahead of X-Factor in total ratings the latter has better demographics for ITV's purposes.

Just for Burly Paaaaasha! Goooorka! I could teach Pasha a few things, and it wouldn't be dance steps! I never watch the results show. I think it's rubbish, hideously stretched out to make it last the requisite length and just cringey. I either google the spoiler or just wait until I hear it on Monday. New head judge is promising, she's VERY Arlene Philips isn't she? Which begs the question, why not just bring Arlene back? Either way I'm glad that nasty old goat Len Goodman has gone. Horrible. And I'm not deceived by that jokey persona he puts on in his new quiz show either. I thought he left to cut down on his workload? The man is all over BBC tv and radio like an annoying rash.

Debbie Mcgee has some good rhythm! Maybe all those years as a magicians assistant will pay off.

Interesting to hear Jonnie Peacock say that people will be surprised at how little his disability hinders him with the dance moves. Please please let him be good and please please let's have a fabulous makeover where that awful man bun gets chopped off like we had with wotsisname who was in Big - The Musical. I hope they don't spray tan him though, he's very nicely pale and interesting.
Agree, Debbie McGee might be good from the older contestants. Burke is going to be good I think. Confidence is a big part of this her experience in MT over the last couple of years is putting her in a really good place.
Hope Ruth Langsford is out early.

Extremely disappointing tribute to Bruce. I hope it's not the last. I know I've said it's been better since he left but there is no doubt how good an entertainer he was. They needed to bring as many former pros (and possibly celebs) back to do a dance (if they wanted to and were available) . . . Maybe at Christmas.

I'm a bit underwhelmed with the pairings. I know Kevin was overdue someone who isn't an obvious winner at first glance, but was hoping he'd get Chizzy or Debbie. Susan is annoying me already. Not sharing the Pasha luurrrve on here - can't put my finger on it, but there often seems to be a bit of a weird atmosphere between him and his partners (apart from the obvious one of course.) I was hoping Jonnie would get Janette, but I love Oti, so I'm hopeful their pairing will work. Brian is hilarious. Richard made me laugh, but that could change...Karen and Simon look first out to me. Charlotte and Brendan looked about as happy to get each other as did Lulu and Brendan. Can't believe they brought AJ back. Charlotte surprisingly wooden in the group dance, along with Gemma, Susan and Ruth. Best rhythm seemed to come from Aston (not a fan, but Janette should do some great stuff with him) Debbie and Alexandra. (Didn't get a good look at all of them though.) The new female pros look fun and Shirley seems great, if a little Arlenesque! And I almost warmed to Tess. Oh, and best dress - Mollie, worst dress - Ruth - that was seriously unflattering, as was her hair.

You almost warmed to Tess = you see how I feel about Mollie. Actually, are we on different planets when it comes to Strictly, Tibidabo, Ruth's hair was the best?
