Now up at 809,000 views! Now bare in mind that the Strictly Youtube channel only has 123,000 subscribers so there's hundreds of thousands of people specifically seeking out Joe's video. If he can encourage all of his followers to vote for free online then he pretty much has this in the bag. I had a feeling that would happen as soon as he was announced. Seems to be a nice enough guy, and he was one of the best of a pretty terrible set of dances on Saturday, though that's really not saying much. I don't consider him to be a celebrity so the thought of him winning doesn't really sit well with me, especially if he does it over some far superior dancers - it's happened in the past and it's always a shame for me when the final doesn't contain the best dancers, even if they don't win. Thankfully it doesn't look as if I'll be massively invested in this series anyway - after all the promise of the launch show there were only 3 dances I really enjoyed on Saturday (Lauren, Graeme and Faye) and it seemed as if pretty much all the pros apart from AJ, Oti and Giovanni had forgotten how to actually choreograph the dance they were supposed to be doing and gone for disco (Latin) or American Smooth (ballroom) instead - really unimpressed. I very much agree with everything you say, poster J, but I do wonder these days just what is the definition of 'celebrity' when it comes to TV quizzes or reality shows?

Joe being a celeb or excelling at his particular field is a hard one. Would Lauren consider herself a celeb - she'd probably define herself as a Para athlete or a Sportswoman.
But if voting is free and Joe's fanbase gets behind him then he could be hard to beat.

I saw on twitter a criticism of Joe because of a gesture he was making while waiting to go on. I don’t know what it is cos I’m not au fair with current customs etc but I was wondering if you guys know more.

It's a game that I remember seeing for the first time on an episode of Malcolm in the Middle that has made a bit of a comeback recently. Basically the person makes that gesture below their waist and has to trick people into looking at it. If you look at it then you lose the game and the person can hit you on the arm. It's referenced a lot in online memes.

He’s engaging the vlogger community with inside jokes. Clever.

He's basically making a joke of doing the show by pulling out YouTuber jokes so that he can get votes from the fangirls.
I will say, he is one of the better YouTubers of that "group". Most of them are assholes now.

Let's separate the wheat from the chaff, eh?
Second year in and Shirley is really coming into her own and she really knows her stuff! Kudos to her!
Guess we can all predict one of the couples in the bottom tow, but who would do you reckon the second couple be? Katie? Sean?
I still reckon Charles is the one to watch throughout.

Susannah needs to go. She's genuinely terrible and it's not fun to watch.
Loved Kate, Ashley and Faye.

Well, that was forgettable.
I do like Faye and Giovanni, Danny and Amy and Charles - though his partnership with Karen I'm not sure about.
Shirley so obviously doesn't like either Vick or that bloke she's with - who I have to grudgingly admit took last week's direction extremely well and came up with a pretty decent routine for her this week. If even I can admit that, surely Shirley should have acknowledged it?
Ashley is in another stratosphere. It cannot help Katie being there among the likes of her and Faye. She looks uncomfortable, as does Susannah.
Gawd, but how rubbish was Tess tonight? She really went for it, and then some. Cringe.
I'm not sure if I can even bear to watch next week. It's so long. Stacey is so annoying, as is the doctor. Seann was dreadfully out of time and Lee wasn't much better. Isn't he supposed to be a musician? Danny's timing was unbelievable. Brilliant. Thought it unfair that Joe got to do another dance that would appeal to his little fan girlies rather than ballroom. (He has fan girlies right? I have no idea what a b/vlogger is. Got a bit confused seeing him making insurance companies' favourite type of roofs. I wasn't really paying attention.)
I can't remember anyone else. Can they do a Bake-off and chuck 2 out please? (Every week until Halloween.)

Both this week and last it has felt like Tess has tried really hard to come across as quite natural and funny rather than her usual robotic self and it was so cringey to watch. I had to look away when she was laughing about the umbrella gag. I think she should stick to the script and leave Claudia to have the fun.

Well she's never been either funny or natural, no matter how hard she tries. And she'd have her hand politely but meaningfully slapped away if she attempted to paw me after I'd sweated my ass off on the dance floor. Would be brilliant telly if one of the celebs turned on her.

I genuinely think a random person picked from the street could do that job just as well as Tess Daly. Actually, I take that back... they’d be better!

And yes, I agree that Shirley is becoming a total highlight. Stepping out of being ‘Len’s replacement’ last year - and even having a go at the professionals for making mistakes! Great rapport with the other judges. A very witty comment to Sean, too.

Something not quite right with the music. Anyone more musical than I am offer any comment?

Good job Brucie wasn't at his peak when he was doing it with Tess as he'd have tied her in knots. She used to get confused when he went off script or ad-libed and have to wait to find out where she was. Brucie didn't like reading from the autocue as his eyesight wasn't great and probably felt more comfortable speaking spontaneously and reacting to what others said. Considering Tess hadn't really done TV Work until she was turned 30 and then had only done bits on the Big Breakfast and SMTV live she was lucky to get Strictly. But in this world where we hear about female empowerment etc then good luck to her for having one of the biggest jobs on TV.

I’m not a Tess fan by any stretch but at least she does the “business” which is essential to the progress of the show and doesn’t try to be a “personality “. I do actually like Claudia normally but just not in SCD. This wacky persona she’s putting forward, what is that for? Is it to replace Bruce’s bad jokes? If so then just no. Please stop trying to be the comedian Claudia because you’re not funny, it does not work and is just cringeworthy. The other thing that really annoys me, and I’m sure this is just a personal thing to me, is that when they’re doing the intros together she pulls her face into this faux-serious expression where she sucks her cheeks in and frowns as if she’s going to read the news. Just. No.
I think SCD thrives because of the format, the fan base and the judges. I don’t think the presenters are adding a great deal.

Something not quite right with the music. Anyone more musical than I am offer any comment? The producers keep picking songs that are wildly unsuitable for the dance in question For example, Somewhere from West Side Story is not a waltz (it's written in 4/4 not 3/4 and a waltz has to be the latter), and so had to be rearranged and as a result both sounded awful and didn't fit the dance. Graeme's song was also not an American Smooth/Foxtrot.

I like Claudia but it does feel like she's phoning it in a bit of late. She's still very funny at times though. At her best when she mocks the earnestness and ego of many of the celebs.
Tess is very mechanical. No real personality but generally keeps things running along. Think she should stop pawing the celebs and reacting to the judges comments though, that's when she slips into annoying.

As I just said in the other thread on strictly, let's be careful which thread we post in so we don’t reveal anything to people who don’t want to know. Me included, I get quite 'enthusiastic'.....
