Apparently the next contestant is going to be revealed on Angela Scanlon’s Radio 2 Show tonight, and the seventh will be revealed on This Morning tomorrow.

Angela was rumoured before to be an option for Strictly but as she has a 6 month old daughter would she want the hours training and Katie Piper is this year's new mum. That the announcement is happening on a drivetime radio show and not One Show probably doesn't hold out much hope for quality of contestant.
A lot of the This Morning mob have done Strictly - Ruth, Alison, Lisa Snowdon etc. If it is one of them I just hope it's Rylan as he'd be hilarious or Gino but both them have other programmes so would they have time to commit. It will probably be Alice Beer or someone like that.
I don't see Eamonn doing it given his workschedule and the fact he's had both hips done however entertaining he'd be.
Always a pity the late Dale Winton never got the chance to do Strictly, the thought of him doing it and camping it up makes me laugh just thinking about it.

Katie Piper is this year's new mum. They have a quota, or just really, really few crèche facilities? Just with any of these shows, they do seem to cast to fill certain criteria. They feel that they need to connect with as many demographic groups as they can. I can sort of see their point - but it can lead to them picking people who really wouldn't be well-known enough to qualify as a celebrity but who can tick the right sort of boxes in terms of identity/tribe/group. Classic one for me was Judy Murray. Her claim to fame was being mother of tennis players more than her career as a minor tennis coach. She was picked because of her sons - and that is hardly a good enough reason in my eyes. Unless they are going to impress with some really big names, Strictly might be in for a bad year. No-one so far is close to even being a B-list celeb.

Really depends on your frame of reference though doesn't it? which much of the discussion above has tried (and fallen on deaf ears!) to highlight. For some people some 'Celebrities' are the Tom Cruise of their world- in the same way an obscure Musical theatre actor is a big deal to some of us and a 'who?' to the rest of the world. I don't know also that Strictly is or has ever been a show that has relied on or claimed to have BIG stars- it's always been a mix of tv presenters from various eras and styles and soap stars. And part of the joy (for me anyway) is finding you love 'that fella I'd never heard of' because he does a nice Waltz

As was mentioned earlier, Celebrity Masterchef is far worse than Strictly for their broad definition of celebrity (and the same does go for that awful jungle thing)
But it shouldn't be beyond the BBC to attract people with a reasonable national profile. If too many people have to google to find out about a contestant on Strictly, they have done something wrong.
And today's announcement is definitely in that category. Someone from London commercial radio show is not a big enough name for Strictly. She may be a great dancer and will use this as a springboard to something else. But at the moment, she isn't a big enough name.

Last year's show was hardly full of A-listers (or even B-listers for the most part). When dear old Debbie McGee is as A-list as it gets, you know you've got to rely on entertainment and not the names.

Surely everyone was saying that about Joe McFadden, Alexandra Burke and Gemma Atkinson last year too?

No
Joe was, at that time, appearing as a major character in a BBC ongoing drama - so he had a profile (as well as a theatre background) Alexandra found fame through X Factor and has her (well-discussed) theatre career Gemma was known for appearing on Hollyoaks and Emmerdale as well as appearing on various tv 'reality' shows
Whereas Vick Hope co-presents a London breakfast radio show

Faye is probably my favourite Strictly signing ever. So thrilled for her. Vick Hope is a very odd choice and apparently has a lot of training which you might not expect for a DJ. Training doesn’t bother me though. Tonight and tomorrow reveals are apparently Graeme Swann and Dr Ranj.

She's really no more or less of a 'name' than 3 of the 4 finalists from last year (Debbie McGee excepted).

I am not sure how you can put 'Carnage' on the same level as X Factor/Holby/Emmerdale - it is a show I had not heard of until you mentioned it now. And I can't find any viewing figures for it. So from what I can find via Google, it is not exactly a major UK TV show.

So from what I can find via Google, it is not exactly a major UK TV show. 'Holby City' and 'Emmerdale' only get on average around 5 million viewers (I think) nowadays so they're hardly the big hitter shows they might once have been any more. Alexandra Burke's last charting single was in 2012. Apart from her loyal fans and those who go to certain shows at the theatre, there's probably a lot of people who forgot (or didn't even know) who she was. Anyhoo, panic ye not, I'm sure there will be several soap actors, lads mag favourites and faded pop stars in this years show to keep everyone happy too. There's still plenty of 'celebrities' to announce yet. There's probably someone from TOWIE or the like still to come too. That's a big TV show so people should be delighted there. I'm sure Vick Hope isn't the icing on the cake. Keeeeeeeeeep dancing!

Clearly Vick Hope *is* enough of a public figure to appear on Strictly. I cite the following evidence: Vick Hope has been announced as a contestant for the forthcoming series of Strictly.

There's probably someone from TOWIE or the like still to come too Apparently they have said "no" to casting any "reality stars" in the series. That will be good news, so at least the contestants have "proper" jobs. We shall see...….

Graeme Swann confirmed as the next contestant
(and I have heard of him!)
Will he live up to records of previous cricketers on the show?

'Names' aren't really a big deal to me if I'm honest. It's rare that I know more than about a third of the line-up anyway. One of the things I love about this show is getting to know people I've never heard of before and watching them enjoy their journey and it being full of surprises. Doesn't hugely matter to me how well known they are or what their background/area is.

But then I only likes the sports where the mens wear lycra, shorts or trunks. Or where they dance about with a ribbon and a ball. Never mind "where are the names?", where are the hotties?

I'm waiting for this year's female totty or hotties. Not much for either side yet.

Whether they are names or not its the poorest line up so far since the series began. It is obviously not attracting the bigger names any more( Except Faye Tozer of course!). Guess they are all scared of the Strictly curse!

As always, I will vaguely know one or two and care nothing about any of them and be screaming at the screen in the most partisan way by Christmas.

Wonder if we'll get a politician this year after Anne Widdecombe and Ed Balls they certainly provide entertainment. Nick Clegg isn't doing much at the moment!

I’ve heard today’s prediction that I mentioned might be wrong. We shall see later. Either person should be good though.
