This doesn't look like closing any time soon.
I was thinking, why did they continue the performance even after Piangi was found hanged? Surely they'd have shut it down before the phantom would have a chance to bring the chandelier down at curtain call

Maybe they felt they'd gone past the point of no return?

Maybe they felt they'd gone past the point of no return? Terrible. Back then perhaps people were more resilient. These days a performer being slightly drunk is enough to cancel the show, let alone a corpse hanging from the ceiling.

Buquet is the one who gets hanged during Il Muto.

Spoiler alert!
As well as that lack of plot logic, I've always wondered what Christine sees in Raoul - he managed to lose her in a locked room, formulates a plan that puts her in mortal danger and when he does come to rescue her he gets instantly caught in a trap! Not such a dashing hero after all....

He's rich and handsome. Fair point, but once she sees past that and realises that he is completely useless there'll be trouble!!!

It's always seemed to me that pretty much everything in Phantom requires accepting that Christine is the least intelligent person who ever lived.

Fair point, but once she sees past that and realises that he is completely useless there'll be trouble!!! The Christine as bait plan could be seen as Raoul primarily protecting his investment in the theatre. It was a bit ineffective anyway, could have just sent the mob down after the Phantom in the first place. I've always thought of him as a shallow Prince Charming, Love Never Dies Raoul is a lot more interesting imo.

Oh Monkey, I didn't have you pegged as a typical teenage Phantom fan, but it seems you are!

Not being one myself I can't claim to be an expert on what women want from a relationship, but I'd have thought that Not Likely To Throw A Tantrum And Murder Me If I Don't Follow His Orders To The Letter would be a point in Raoul's favour. Doesn't Spy On Girls In Their Bedrooms is a biggie too.

I am baffled that so many people think Christine should choose a deformed, psychopathic murderer over a man who is young, handsome, rich, titled & most importantly not a murderer!

Raoul is the Nice Safe Man. The Phantom, on the other hand, is most definitely motorbikes and leathers. Who wouldn't choose motorbikes and leathers?!

It's always seemed to me that pretty much everything in Phantom requires accepting that Christine is the least intelligent person who ever lived. Not if they cast someone young enough as Christine ,or someone who can play down in age and sound it too, and who can act whats there in the script, about the search for a mentor, the dead father angle, the betrayal by Raoul, and getting completely stressed out by it all? You can even make Love Never Dies seem realistic if you play the final scene to allow it. It also needs a Phantom who has some magnetism and vulnerability, as well as real menace. When they cast older Christines, who can't act that well, or dull Phantom's, it doesn't work for me - at its worst, its Christines who sound 30, doing silly things, and a dull bloke in a mask who is boring, and unconvincing.

If a girl has low self esteem, she would go for Phantom. If she has self-worth, she would go for Raoul.
It's all about her insecurities. Does she need a psycho, bad boy because she has a desparate need to be worshipped in a shallow sexual way, and needs that conformation to feel right, then she needs to work on herself first, before starting any relation. Just like many teenage girls do.
A proper relationship goes far beyond that.

Hoping to revisit this next week when I am in London. Would like to see Ben's take on the phantom? Does anyone know if he has any scheduled performances off or holidays then?

Anyone able to tell me if Ben and Nadim are scheduled to perform this evening. Currently on the train to London and planning to head straight to TKTS.
Also planning to see 'The Go Between' this afternoon. Is Michael Crawford on?

Phantom TWitter has now posted 2 Christine-Dresses for Cast change, does this mean Celinde is leaving? And if yes, who is coming? Do you think Sofia Escobar could be coming back?

Why do you think Sofia would be coming back? Genuinly curious- has he hinted? She was with the show for SO long (and I found her quite boring but that's beside the point)

He hasn't done a long run with a show for some time, so I would be very surprised if he stayed on.
