I have no actual clue on this stuff, but my assumption is if someone's reliable, sings the score, does the job competently, causes no trouble backstage, then they're probably perfectly happy to renew them rather than worry about the fact their performance isn't setting anyones heart aflame. With that said, I'll wait until someone more exciting is cast before I make a return visit.

Normally if a casting “mistake” is made, there are three choices.
1. The most common, provided they are punctual, professional and competent enough to be there on a professional stage, they simply see the contract out. Then naturally, they won’t renew them.
2. They are bought out of their contract, sometimes with a non-compete clause so they can’t go into a rival show while they are still being paid their contract period
3. And most controversially, they can be “managed out” or offered voluntary early release. This can happen if the performer is unhappy themselves. Sometimes with a cover story (a personal matter, illness, injury) to save face for the performer.
In this specific case though, the management obviously like Killian Donnelly. A safe pair of hands, who doesn’t cause trouble backstage and is reliable, punctual and professional is worth its weight in gold.
Fair enough, they obviously think he’s doing a good job - and really theirs is the only opinion which matters.

Aye, and in comparison to Ben Forster who was almost off more than he was on, a Lead who actually makes it on stage when they should is a dream, as it saves a lot in administrative faff booking standbys etc.

Went and saw this last Tuesday for the first time and had a blast.
I think it was Holly Anne Hull as Christine but either way she was terrific. No one else sadly wasn’t that much of a standout. But still a terrific show throughout.

That would have been the 1st cover Anouk Van Laake with James Gant on as u/s Phantom, Lily De-La-Haye as u/s Carlotta, James Hume and Tim Morgan as u/s the managers (I was also there last Tuesday).

I saw Holly on Saturday evening, she was absolutely excellent. James Gant was also on as the Phantom and I found his portrayal heartbreaking. Incredible vocals from both! I wasn't so sure about Connor Carson as Raoul, but he has only had a few shows so I guess he will grow into the role. We all got a Phantom mask as a Halloween gift from Lloyd Webber too which was a nice bonus!

You're right. Seen pictures of her and that's who it was when I saw it. Still didn't lessen my enjoyment but she was the highlight. It was nice to finally see it after so long. I still prefer Les Mis though. Better story and a more epic feel.

I really hope they promote Holly-Anne Hull, who has grown tremendously into the role over the last year, to principal until August - her rendition of Wishing from MusicalCon is on the usual socials, if anyone hasn't seen her since tour/reopening. If they do so, I assume Anouk will be bumped up to alternate and Eve to 1st cover, but the timing of Lucy's departure aligns nicely with Mary Poppins closing, so a Beatrice Penny-Touré return doesn't seem impossible either.
Does anyone know where the rumour about Matt also leaving in Jan/Feb/otherwise before main cast change has come from? I've seen it in a few places now without being able to identify a cause.

her rendition of Wishing from MusicalCon is on the usual socials does that video actually reflect her current standard at HMT?! her wobble and pronunciation was all over the place- had thought it was an exception to her usual as she was singing it in the morning and probably hadn't had the time to warm up!

I watched her at MusicalCon and she was stunning given the circumstances. There was an awful lot of background noise from other areas of the arena and I think she struggled to her the backing track at points. It was also very early in the morning

Unfortunate choice of photo with the article. I'm almost expecting some poor, confused person to claim that it was Michael Crawford's obituary. A photo of Tucker in his workshop would have been more appropriate.
And I'm geeking out after reading that Tucker was part of the team who made the creatures in the Mos Eisley cantina. Now that tune will be in my head for the next 12 hours...

Bumping in case anyone has heard any compelling rumours recently - it seems very odd that Lucy has six (!) shows left and Killian leaves in three weeks and there's been no official announcement on who's replacing either of them!
(I'm assuming that the mere act of posting this will in fact summon said official announcement, of course...)

Bradley Jadens name mentioned as the Phantom I don't believe it's him. I've heard an old phantom is returning temporarily before a new phantom takes over full time.

Blimey, I wasn’t expected to see Killian leave just yet - assumed he’d stay until the summer around the second anniversary of it re-opening post-Covid.
I’d also assumed/heard/read on here that Bradley Jaden was the likely new Phantom. Given how insanely talented he is I thought he would only be moving on from Les Mis for a role like this one. Fingers crossed as I’d definitely book a return trip to Phantom to see him in this.
Does seem crazy that Lucy and now Killian’s final performances are so close, yet we don’t know who’ll be replacing them!

I’ve heard that the understudy is taking over for a few weeks. No idea who that is as hope it isn’t Scott(?) Davies as he is just dreadful

My friend saw the show in Australia and the phantom there told her at stage door that he was heading back to the UK. That might be the scheduling conflict?

Did somebody say Bradley Jaden as Phantom? The man bun of the opera is there, inside your mind.
