Surprised no one has posted on this at all!
I caught this on Monday evening - did the lottery and got a standing ticket for $59 which I though was a great deal. 90 mins straight through so standing was fine.
I thought the show was great. The circle in the square setting is really wonderful and you feel like you are in this show with them. I thought the cast were universally excellent - especially Alex Newall as Asaka! Mama Will Provide is a real highlight in the show.
I felt like I should have been in tears at the end like a lot of the audience but I wasn’t - I just smiled for a solid 90 minutes because it was so unbelievably beautiful to look at! It’s well worth catching (and they do Monday nights - which hardly anyone else does!)

This and Come From Away were my favourite things when I visited in February. Absolutely adored the show. I won the lottery and got a front row ticket and the immersion was fantastic. The cast were incredible and I was lost in the story from start to finish. Couldn’t recommend it more... I do wish there were more one act shows. The theatre was lovely too and we got to meet one of the chickens in the preshow (Effy I think).

I thought it was a great production of a sh*t show. Timon decides to sacrifice her life for Daniel the minute she lays eyes on him. And the more selfish, racist and horrible he is, the more she wants him. And then she dies of heartbreak.
I have a 9 year old niece and I'm not sure this is a great message for a young woman. Having said this, it's a gorgeous, energetic and beautiful production bursting with creativity.

Wow I don't come on the International section often but I'm surprised this show doesn't have more comments. I haven't seen it but I've been very impressed by all the clips I've seen and the reviews. I also have a soft spot for the theatre after seeing Fun Home there.
I heard from a fairly reliable source that Eva Noblezada auditioned for Ti Moune, so we will see what comes from that.

I just don't see how Eva would work, considering how Ti Moune has to be visibly black for the story to work. Eva could do very young woman as she has done in Miss Saigon, and could pass as a mature 17 year old who has gone through some serious sh*t and war, but Ti Moune needs to read younger, and as far as I'm concerned, a fool in love.

She was done Broadway before so she knows what she is doing but, she isn't going to make a real impact in ticket sales. Now if they got Beyonce, it would be a return on my school days of selling my plasma for Beer money but now it would be for Queen B.
Isn't Hadestown eyeing this theatre? They might want to make new plans if they want to be open by Tony cutoff.

I've also heard rumours they are gonna star cast the lead and bump out Hailey in another attempt to boost sales. In truth, it should of closed months ago with their sales records, it's a shame the Tony Award had no impact. On the upside, the original Broadway run ran 18 months, so if it lasts until the end of Michelle's run, it will match the original run.  |

MetcalfHailey is probably going to stay until January when her contract is up. They might try to stunt Daniel though. I think Issac is leaving in November. And they could get someone to Asaka as well. Once another show has decided it wants the Circle in the Square it will kick out OOTI. But the Circle isn't a real sought after house. The last hit was Fun Home. |

I wouldn't be surprised if Alex leaves too. From what I've heard and read, not long after the first few months, he has been sleepwalking through the show and being underwhelming compared to the reviews. Which actually may explain why he didn't get a Tony nomination if he didn't know what shows the Tony nominators were coming in.

Aw..Poor Michelle.
I can't see how Hadestown would run there in its current incarnation. Maybe in its original NYTW version, but this new version which is a full scale proscenium played at the Citadel and soon at the NT is a scaled up production. Circle in the Square theatre is basically a bigger Southwark Playhouse, at least the auditorium is.
I heard Alex is still delivering and killing it.

Saw the Arts Ed production tonight and I have to say I really enjoyed it. They always put on such high quality productions, often better than the off west end shows I see. Hope you enjoy. |

My teenager was nonplussed at the 'love' story and motivation of Ti Moune. 'She sacrificed her life and became a tree so his children WITH ANOTHER WOMAN could play happily under her?' |

Hailey Kilgore is set to leave on January 13th. If the producers are smart they will close then instead of wasting away money trying to find a new Ti Moune. But, as we all know, the producers are not smart by wasting all this money. If I had that money I would retire in a heartbeat.
I hope Michael Arden gets a hit soon, he is really inventive and brings something new to the table each show he directs.

Why on earth didn't they just wait an extra week until Hailey's scheduled departure date?
It's a shame as it's a fantastic show, and I doubt the next production at Circle in the Square will be quite so unique (or at least have a beach and lake onstage!)

We all saw this coming for monthes. I wish it was more successful mainly because the director did something new and different.
It shouldn't be hard to talk Hailey into staying an extra week and, they can always get the actress who covered Hailey the time she was hurt for the last week as well.

Sad to see this announcement, although the sales from now until the end of the run are looking quite poor and they’ve recently had the best Black Friday offer for buy one, get one free 😬 (This news obviously has nothing to do with Michelle’s casting, as the show was flagging beforehand).
Feeling relieved that I booked my tickets for December rather than wait until next Summer as I’d originally planned. Just over a year is a respectable run on Broadway, still, with lots of shows not even lasting a year despite a familiar story.

You've got it the wrong way round - Hailey was scheduled to leave on the 13th, a week AFTER it is now closing. I would have thought it would have been easier from an accounting perspective just to close on the same day her contract was up rather than only a week before. |

On Broadway, The AEA requires The Producers to pay the cast and crew two weeks after the closing notice is posted. Since the closing was announced in late November Hailey and the rest of the cast will only be paid until closing night, anytime after is voided and she will not be paid anything.
