Switch one smart funny lesbian for another, and one panto comedy sidekick for another. I'm actually more willing to give it a go now than I was when they originally announced the move. Can't guarantee I'll like it, but I'll certainly give it a fair go. That's really not what Mel and Sue were - is essence, they are the female Ant'n'Dec, close friends, comedy partners and perfectly middle class! I'd argue a lot about who the 'panto sidekick' is in their duo, cos I'd wager it's neither! Do Noel and Sandi even know each other? If not, then the chemistry is going to have to be created from scratch - it may work, but it's the very definition of an odd, slightly random, pairing. Individually, I like both Sandi and Noel, and Sandi in particular comes across as an incredibly warm, funny person, as well as terrifyingly clever and sharp witted! It's just that neither (as far as I can recall) have presented a TV show anything like GBBO, so we're in unchartered territory for both.

In the context of the Great British Bake Off and nothing else, Mel's humour has been getting INCREASINGLY BROAD over the last couple of seasons in a way that Sue's hasn't necessarily? Hence comedy panto sidekick. The new pairing sounds odd right now but if the two of them prove to have a decent rapport then I don't think we as an audience stand to lose anything by it. Agreed on Prue not being an accurate replacement for Mary though. Time will tell if she, like Mary, has the grace to beautifully balance Paul's burgeoning need to be "the nasty judge" of the two.

I'm not sure what being a lesbian has to do with it either. Sue Perkins doesn't use that as part of her tv persona, not on GBBO anyway. I doubt whether Sandy will be doing so either.

Sandy T has done a fair share of presenting- and both with the random public and not. Noel granted has not, to my knowledge (which is limited). But it may be just weird enough to work...

Last time I saw Noel F was a cameo in Doll and Em which was a little sitcom on Sky Atlantic and hilarious. I've never met anyone else who saw it though.

Has anyone thought that they better not put a young, straight very attractive woman alongside PH? Hence the combo chosen? Honestly, am I out of order here?

Intrigued to see how this series pans out. Particularly loving the idea of Sandi T. GBBO has always been of an annual pleasure, and I hope it remains so this year...despite me fluffing up a key audition for it!!

Prue Leith's disdain for that cupcake is palpable.

Lol. The irony of one of the auditions is you are advised a most emphatica "no" to making cupcakes! Quite right, too...

Last years winner Candice Brown is going to be in the cast of ITV's resurrected Dancing On Ice this wintertime.
So...

Thanks Burly. You've just caused me to put my fist through my screen...... Edit: And She Who Shall Not Be Named on here is also in it....that's my favourite reality programme I won't be watching. Edit (2) I've just looked at the line-up and the only one I recognise (apart from Bakeoff woman and KP) is Paul Burrell

Ka...Ka.....Ka....Ka......t.....i..... What's the problem? @theatremonkey likes her! I'm more concerned about Psychic Sally to be honest, doesn't she already know whose won? In which case it must be her or why would she be doing it! Not to mention Paul Burrell who I have the hots for

The Great Ape and I have agreed to differ on this one. I'm more concerned about Psychic Sally to be honest, doesn't she already know whose won? In which case it must be her or why would she be doing it! Funny. Never heard of her. (But she knows that.)

My favourite so far is Briony. None of my family like her though.

Good start to the series. But why we're they all wearing the same clothes (including the hosts and judges) 2 days running?

Mmmmm, not sure about some of the contestants, there are a few candidates for a slap. That woman eating her crisps! The hosts seem to have changed their attitude, perhaps because they feel more comfortable in the role. I'm missing me some Mary and her sage advice (pun intended!) What has Noel Fielding done to his hair and why was Sandy missing for large chunks of the show?

It did feel like the judges and presenters were going through the motions a little bit - Sandy and Noel looked particularly bored, and not really engaged in it all. The loss of Mel'n'Sue is keenly felt this year, even more than last year, I have to say. It's only the consistency of the contestant casting that gives the show it's attraction. Kim-Joy, Briony and Terry are my early favourites, Karen and Manon are marked down as the 'annoyingly perfect ones' so far, and Ruby is clearly the 'weekly meltdown' contestant, who can't cope with the timing restrictions!
Let's face it, no one would actually make wagon wheels in real life - a giant faff, and the cost of the ingredients is likely way more a packet of Burton's version, which is less than a quid for 6! Mind you, it's possible to say that about everything baked on the show. I still love it though! It's the start of autumn, for me, getting my pj's on, and watching the show with a (bought) biscuit and a cup of tea!

I thought it was a better show than usual, snappier somehow. Have they done anything apart from chop that man's hair ? I mean in editing or similar. But they certainly do cast types don’t they?
