His films with Pryor were very genius. Another in a long line that 2016 has stolen

Willie Wonka, Young Frankenstein, Leo Bloom (The Producers) and so many more. A stage actor - several Broadway and off-Broadway credits - before Hollywood (and Mel Brooks) discovered him.
Immensely sad.

Indeed; His performance as Leo Bloom is probably my favourite cinematic performance of all, and from all accounts he was an unassuming, genuinely nice human being. He's left an incredible legacy on this world. RIP

images.dead-donkey.com/images/haun1ys3.pngHe filmed 'Haunted Honeymoon' in London and I had a tiny role in it. I can confirm he was absolutely lovely - generous, funny, smart. His wife Gilda was it too and she was also just great - I came on the set a bit starstruck being a fan of them both, but trying to pretend to be cool and professional. On my first day, she treated a bunch of us to lunch - I ended up somehow, sat between Dom Deluise and Jonathan Pryce, really memorable - and odd. I think Gene Wilder stayed very grounded. Gilda and I were talking about New York and he turned around and said, 'I knocked on doors in New York for ten years.' He didn't take his success for granted and created a great atmosphere for everyone. (Reading this back this sounds like a very name-droppy post - sorry about that! Believe me it was not a common occurrence.)

This was aired in the UK last night, wondered if it was a tribute, but it was actually a eerily scheduled appearance. Jimmy Kimmel was star struck. Foxa, I love your story, thank you!

Leo Bloom his best.
Nice to see Mel Brooks still going strong: "Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die".
