What shows in London are doing either extremely well or quite bad in terms of box office?
I know HTOHL isn't doing very well at the moment but that's probably as it was a last minute transfer.
In terms of shows doing really well. I presume Funny Girl is doing well but also shows like Matilda, Mamma Mia etc.

mrslovettsmeatpieYes HTOHL is How the other half loves. It isn't doing too well at the box office and is doing worse out of the ATG venues. Shame as I enjoyed the play a little bit. G&D did well when Rebel was in it but then bookings were bad for performers post her leaving date hence the early closure. I know a few other shows too that arent doing amazingly well at box office too

How is Wicked holding up? I can't believe it fills the Victoria Apollo more than a few times a week. I wish it would downsize to a medium sized house - like The Mousetrap did in the sixties x

Without grosses or knowing weekly running costs, we don't really know how well a show is doing. I would say however that if a show is continually discounting, it's probably not doing great business.

I always forget that the West End doesn't publish grosses!

I'm pretty sure the Fortune Theatre isn't doing great business - I've heard there's only a woman in black there each evening.

Families too I guess. i guess ATG want to keep it running there as there's not many venues that could accommodate it as the set is quite grand and what would they replace it with?

On Wednesday matinees it's mostly a school audience - which is not surprising, I just hope it isn't too reliant on large group bookings. Although The Queens is an amazing venue for Les Mis, I would not be objected to a transfer to the Victoria Apollo. However I know they would use the sh*tty 25th Anniversary Production (Uk Tour/Broadway Revival) and I much prefer the original staging. Surely Les Mis could do well there? If Wicked left I imagine the theatre would just be home to big revivals for the rest of time... 10 years is amazing for a show, however due to the recent tour I can't imagine it'll make it past the 15 year mark. People who wanted to see it would have probably seen it then. Saying all that, if the upcoming film is a commercial hit it might stoke interest in the show... XXX

XXX Yeah school bookings helps it but also the huge fan base of teenage girls (and boys) who see it sooo many times!! I don't think Les Mis will ever move to a theatre of that size, I personally don't think it would do too well in a theatre that huge. Les Mis is fine where it is. If ATG ever wanted the Apollo Victoria back then I presume wicked will close as I can't see it moving and i dont know where It would move to. But if it does close, Apollo Vic will be for big revivals I think. It's a huge theatre and I doubt any producer would want to risk putting their show in a theatre that big. The film could help it a lot, it helped les Mis a lot. Also, mind you, The Lion King has been at the same venue for 17 years now. That's doing extremely well so it'd be silly for them to move that too and I don't think they will. The Woman in Black isn't that busy each night but it's such a cheap play to run and it's made its money back now anyway

Just to think that Les Mis downsized from the Palace, so it won't upsize to the Victoria Apollo, the size of the Queen's theatre size adds to the longevity of the show, which will never close.
Ironically if Andrew Lloyd Webber had the main say in his Phantom of the Opera, it would have closed a long time ago, soon after it opened and tickets were hard to snag, like Harry Potter now, he wanted to move the Phantom to the behemoth London Palladium. Remaining at Her Majestys, the size of the theatre, has helped the longevity of the show, another show that will never close.
West End should publish their grosses.

Behind Phantom it must be the biggest musical in the world, and it's strange that one of the biggest musicals plays in one of the smallest theatres. I think it would easily survive there. I guess I just want to see it fleshed out on a bigger stage - maybe the novelty of that idea would wear out if it ever happened. Miss Saigon ran at Drury Lane for ages.

It could play the Victoria Apollo, where it would die a death and close, in the Queens it is doing a steady clip and the size of the theatre dictates how much you charge.
I won't and shouldn't happen.

I don't understand how people think that fans of shows keep shows running!? They don't keep the show running by themselves but they certainly help it, I think. Wicked is a big example as there's such a huge fanbase of teenagers and adults that constantly go and see it!! Wicked probably also lasts due to tourists I think and it's a family show too, not to mention having The Wizard of Oz connected to the story. Other shows though don't have fans like that and just have tourists going or theatre goers

A show with a tiny cast that sells out at the Park or the Donmar or the Menier may well not sell out in a larger WE theatre but it could well still be making a profit - the running costs will be much the same and 200 people can rattle around in the Garrick but that's still a lot more than most fringe theatres can accomodate

Guys, it seems like there have been a few threads like this lately where people just start making quite wild assumptions about what's opening, what's closing, what's moving... don't get me wrong, I like reading rumours and gossip as much as the next guy, but what's the point in saying 'Could [SHOW] maybe move to [THEATRE] where [OTHER SHOW] seems to doing perfectly good business?'

The whole forum is just nonsense repeated endlessly. If people are enjoying themselves surely it's better to leave them to it rather than pointing out u find it pointless
