He's not got the inner show off required for Hedwig...

Robbie Williams would be an amazing choice for this. Is Mark Owen a someone? OMG, I'd love to see Robbie in this. I'd say Mark Owen is almost as big as him. His post-Take That solo career was never as huge as Robbie's, but he was always the "cute one" out of them and had a huge fan following. Or perhaps that was just me ...

A lot of people started liking Robbie best but shifted their allegiances to Mark very quickly for an array of reasons (we were clearly around the age where we began exploring prudery, as more than one friend went off Robbie upon discovering he smoked, but also a LOT of people never quite forgave him for *gasp* LEAVING Take That). And, of course, a lot of people who weren't quite ready to embrace Robbie's bad boy charms (look, we were REALLY YOUNG at the time) immediately fell for Mark as a much safer-seeming option for their latent sexual awakening.

Or just a holiday while the pound isn't really worth much?

I'd rather eat my own liver than consider seeing Mark Owen and (even worse) Robbie Williams in this no matter how much I want to see the show itself.
It's a great show and a tremendous part for an actor, surely they'd at least be able to find someone with a bit of talent to be able to do it justice instead of these two over the hill pub singers?

Robbie is about to come out with a new album and his promo circus is about to go into overdrive. Can't imagine this'll fit in with plans.

The topic has created 5 pages of responses but there is no definitive statement or press release that the show is even coming! Baz and Mark Shenton haven't even discussed it...

This may shock you but some of us on here actually work in the industry, and so often know things that journos like Baz and Shenton either don't know or won't discuss. Saying people are lying has pushed away some great industry insiders in the past, and makes the ones that remain unlikely to post. I could tell you what Sondheim revival is touring next year (with an eye on going into town after), what musical is going to have a quick run at Traf Studios 1 in the Autumn to see if it is worth a full time place in town, which well-received fringe show now has a West End house booked for next year, I could even give a full account of what happened on the night of technical difficulties at Funny Girl. But it is responses like yours that make me usually not bother anymore. What can be gained by going onto the internet and lying on a tiny forum? Why would anyone bother?

It's like that when I told people about 42nd Street a few months back and either nobody believed me or said I was too young to know things. This is why I wouldn't share news now if I found anything.

Toxic Avenger, everyone knows that So u don't purely coz people won't believe u? Surely if u spilt the beans people in ur business cud work out its u and u would never work again? I think the issue is someone said an announcement was 'imminent'. It wasn't. Don't think anyone has accused that person of lying, just pointing out its speculation

I love finding out theatre gossip. Funnily enough, every piece of theatre gossip I know is from stagedooring. One actress even told me what happened the night of the "technical difficulties" at FG at a stage door.
Really hope Neil Patrick Harris comes to London with the show, I would die to see him perform, he is my idol (well, joint idol with Lin-Manuel Miranda). Don't think I would see the show without him in it.

The way I see it, why *not* believe the things you read? If they turn out not to be true, then maybe you're credulous, but the person who told the lie is the bigger tool in the scenario. The vast majority of people have no reason to tell porkies and frankly, if a discussed show doesn't come to fruition, what does it matter? We've not put any money down, no one's quit their job in readiness, and when no show materialises, the rumours will all be forgotten very quickly.

I happen to be in the industry myself and I find your comments rude and condescending, Fire Fingers..
All I am saying is that one mere statement about a show coming to the West End with an announcement coming had lead to 6 pages of comments yet there is no announcement as of late. No one was ever saying anyone was lying. Geesh...
If my statement is going to keep people away, than I am sorry for that, but not sorry that i made my comment. People need to lighten up

it is responses like yours that make me usually not bother anymore. Also that if you did post what you knew, you wouldn't work again in the business either, of course. Only if he posted his real name with it! ("One two... one two....")

I would suggest that exactly what you think happened is what happened. And the spin which is being vaunted as insider info is a load of old tut.

Beautifully put and appreciated. Agree beautifully put, but stuck your neck on the block there. if someone tells me something of interest, which is very rare and asks me not to repeat something, then I won't - this is out of respect to the person or the person could be selling me a pup, so I could end up looking a right Tw*t. Because the composer of Hedwig said they are looking to come over to the West End a while back and no news kicking about, people just speculate instead. Anyway as I mentioned on another thread that the press offices go quiet in August, only notable news release and that was what is going into the Phoenix, but this was forced because of the premature closing of Guys and Dolls, after the bank holiday it will be business as usual.
