Did you see when Adam Peaty won gold, he sang the national anthem. Bless him. He was so proud.
Back to the subject of empty stadiums, they said on the BBC this morning that at yesterdays morning athletic session there were 1,000 people there in a stadium that holds 80,000 and the mayor of Rio had 1.5 million tickets to give away but had only given away half. Must be disheartening for the competitors so see so many empty seats and surely Brazil are going to make a huge loss if they have not sold seats. I remember going to a morning athletics event in 2012 and it was completely full.

But if they do, it might be the first games since way back to be a financial mess.

(Oh, boys... Well done! Can't wait for tomorrow now!)

The women's vault was an excellent contest as well.
It occurs to me that we ought to replace our national anthem, and I propose replacing it with "Walking On Sunshine". Other countries would let us win just so they could enjoy it, even in events where we're not competing.

I cannot see South America holding the Olympics for a very long time, the Brazilians haven't embraced it at all and the Olympic committee go where the money is. Such a shame.
The biggest mistake London made was it undersold the tickets and didn't anticipate such a high demand.

The biggest mistake London made was it undersold the tickets and didn't anticipate such a high demand. Undersold? How? They were incredibly expensive. They always anticipated a high demand which is why they adopted a lottery system whereby you gave events and dates you were interested in and waited... to be told you hadn't been successful for 90% of your options. However, in the first couple of days some events weren't nearly as popular as they had thought as was evident from empty seats in the lower (i.e. more expensive) parts of some arenas. They did not move us down from the cheap seats, but they quickly realised this looked poor and filled them with volunteers etc Seats in the main stadium were going for ridiculous prices, especially for the medal events. These seats were impossible to get. I know; I tried. And tried. Without success...

And not all the empty seats in London were unsold/corporate. I was at the beach volleyball during the first week, and chatted to a tour leader for a group of about maybe 30 people. You could see the group, as they all had the same baseball hat/backpack combo. The leader told me that they were on a tour and were only dropping in to the volleyball, before going on to a meal somewhere nearby. After about 20 minutes of watching the action the whole group left, leaving a large gap in the stands.

Synchronised swimming. I've never understood why people have been so dismissive of this sport, given that it's basically underwater gymnastics.
