Any performances taking place that evening are going to be horribly disrupted as you can bet half the audience won't have their phones turned off so there will be alarms going off all over the place.
I had the same thought! Whilst it won’t make a difference for cinema screenings, they’ll hopefully schedule it pre 7.30pm so as to avoid disrupting shows taking place that evening. I think most of the West End Sunday performances are matinees so would be done by then but it would’t surprise me if theatre and music shows haven’t been considered at all…

Cursed Child part 2 is 6pm on a Sunday, the alert could coincide nicely with the act 3 jump scare there.

Surely if shows have notice, they can do an announcement beforehand. "Turn off your phones... no, this time we really mean it." That ought to at least reduce disruption?

I’m writing this on my phone while waiting for my flight back from NYC to London so forgive me not posting a link but Page Six (you can find them and full details of this on Instagram) reports that Hillary and Chelsea Clinton went to see Some Like It Hot at the Schubert Theater on Broadway and ‘the lights came up for intermission and there were two human turds in the aisle just near the famous political duo’
The mind boggles pondering whether whoever was responsible carried this out during the first act or sneaked the doings inside in their pocket and lobbed them at some point 😝

Interesting communication from Soho Place in advance of Medea: "Cloakroom and bag policy: with exceptional acoustics, you too are part of the performance. We have a large cloakroom that can be used by all patrons free of charge. To respect performers and fellow patrons, we request that bags bigger than an A4 piece of paper (21cm x 30cm) are checked into the cloakroom."
And unrelated to bad behavior (unless someone deliberately disobeys, I suppose), I've never seen something like this: "Please Note: We kindly request that you do not bring nuts into the venue due to severe airborne allergies in our cast. Thank you for your cooperation."

I wonder if there's scope to prosecute/sue people for selling or posting nude images taken without permission during a show? In general I think theatres do almost nothing to stop phones being used during shows. The article says Good put stickers on phone cameras - that certainly didn't happen the night I saw it. Usually there's only an usher holding up a sign before the show, which a lot of people don't even look at. Occasionally an usher will say something on the way in about switching off phones (I think I recall this at the Old Vic and Almeida). Why aren't there announcements in every theatre at the same time as "the performance will begin in 3 minutes" saying "Please switch off your phone now. You will be asked to leave if you use your phone while the actors are on stage." It's so rare to go to the theatre and not be disturbed by phone lights and ringtones.

As was seen at Take Me Out in NYC, there's no way to know if someone has a second phone with them for nefarious purposes - as everyone had to use Yondr pouches for Take Me Out. People will always find a way around processes, the answer has to be heightened surveillance and enforcement.

That's strange they were able to take those photos because they had FOH on stage keeping an eye.

I didn't see the photos but I saw a comment on another site from someone who thought from the angle of the pic it was someone on stage that took it, but I have to say I did think that would be surprising as hundreds of pairs of eyes are on the stage all the time. Take Me Out was definitely taken from a seat occupied by someone with a Yonder pouch though.

The angle in those pictures was looking downwards with people visible in the onstage seats, so must have been taken from the circle.
Clearly they’d have known there was a strong possibility of someone filming it, so it’s bizarre to me that the people on stage, sitting under stage lighting and visible to hundreds of people are made to lock their phones away while the hundreds of people sitting in the dark aren’t.
Though the minuscule foyer at the Pinter’s a bit of a nightmare to get in and out of on a good day, checking everyone’s phones will only make that worse.

Then there's the people at &Juliet last Monday sat in the front row filming the pre-show including the part where they hold up the signs saying no phones?!

Why is everyone assuming the photos were taken with a phone? There are discreet cameras disguised as, say, pens available on Amazon. For £40.

I believe there are also glasses you can wear with built in cameras.
There used to be a shop not far from Oxford Street that sold all sorts of covert surveillance equipment
If people want a photo, they can find technology to achieve it

Yes a phone is the last item to use to take discreet photos, with its big screen lighting up as you lift it and probably on automatic flash.
So locking away phones will only deter casual photographers but a stern warning would probably work almost as well as a deterrent.

They need to go nuclear. Any phones out or bad behaviour, the show is stopped and does not resume until offenders have departed, no refund. Would soon put an end to all this nonsense.
Venues would help themselves no end if they made crystal clear what is not permitted and what is, beforehand and at the start.

From what I am reading on Twitter the behaviour at Stage Doors seems to be getting worse.
Bonnie and Clyde now have a sign up reminding patrons to be polite, which is depressing that it even needs to be said.

The signs put up saying there was no stage-dooring allowed when covid was more prevalent had hardly any effect, so good luck to them with that.

We went to Elton John in Liverpool last week. I know you have to drastically lower your standards when going to arena gigs but my GOD, I just do not understand the logic of paying the amount of money these tickets cost, to see one of the greatest solo musicians who has ever lived in what you know for a fact is the final concert he'll ever perform in your orbit, only to then treat him like a pianist in a cocktail bar and have a casual conversation throughout the entire show.

Stunned* that Ballet is mentioned in that article - what on earth is going on? Ballet of all things isn't known for attracting people who'll be on a hen night etc. And there's zero opportunity to sing along/join in. I'm just at a loss at this point... *although by now I really shouldn't be.
