I'm sure it must on some level feel good to introduce a friend to a new art form or genre they haven't tried before, but I do wonder what the point is if they just behave like that.
If I was invited to go to a football match by friends I would politely decline as I just know it isn't my thing. In a theatre though, the least you can do is not be disruptive.

This isn't so much bad behaviour as poor communications but it did reduce my enjoyment of a favourite musical. Booked two seats in row A for Saturday evening to see a recent amateur show. My usual choices - middle of the "front row". We arrived later than planned because the satnav set for the community hall sent us to a residential area 100 yards away - in the right street but on the other side of a main road. Drove round in a circle twice, then I had to knock on a couple of doors to find the real location .Anyway got parked and walked in just a few minutes before start time.
The six seating rows were arranged in two blocks of three. Row A was at the BACK on one side of the performance area with B and C in front. Row D was at the front on the other side of the stage with E and F behind. Wouldn't have been too bad but the legroom for our seats in the now back row was terrible and I looked enviously at the two front rows with enough space for the jolly green giant. It was sold out and about to start so couldn't move.
I did speak to someone at the interval - not in a complaining way - and she explained they decided at the rehearsal stage to use a different configuration and put the stage between what would have been rows C and D. I tend to be one of the first to book but I do think those already booked when the change was made should have been notified.

Imagine an actor having to step in MID SHOW to get rid of someone

Is this the same incident that happened last week, or has it somehow happened twice at the same show in quick succession?
Wendell Pierce is just pure 100% class, as an actor and human being, and that woman doesn't deserve to occupy the same city as him.
edit: okay, it's the incident from the 28th December; for some reason Now This News only ran it yesterday.

OMG in such a serious play with all the depth of character required. Only time I’ve seen this done is once in a comedy , many moons ago Donald Sinden of beloved memory commenting on a cough, a famous incident I think, brought the house down and then the wonderful Diana Rigg asking for a prompt in Who’s Afraid ..but she kept character, her dagger looks would have slowed anyone…

Sunday 8th Evening shoe of The Play That Goes Wrong.
Got stuck beside someone who has done "a lot of previous backstage work in theatre" and constantly had to exclaim answers to how it could be fixed.
"They need to screw that shelf on" "need to make sure all the actors are aware where their props are" "should have cancelled the show than have a stage hand holding a script" "Did the director actually think no-one would notice?
I couldn't decide if he actually didn't understand that everything happening was part of the show and just didn't get it, or if he was actually trying to be annoying. Possibly a combination of both.
Also decided to wait until 20 minutes into the show to struggle to a bag of sweets...with his teeth.

Far too many bored and chatty kids at Stranger Sings, but the bad behaviour badge definitely goes to their parents for taking them along in the first place! There were little ones as young as probably 6 or 7, who I overheard talking about the fact they'd never seen the TV show (which makes sense because it's not exactly aimed at kids!), and then kicked the back of my chair repeatedly for most of the show and needed every reference (show and wider pop culture) explaining to them. Seemed like the adults wanted to go and dragged their children along. Shell out for a babysitter and leave the kids at home, or don't come! The website says 16+ now just because of the inappropriate content, but because the rest of the audience don't want to hear your kids talking the whole way through.
Excellent show, though.

Palladium panto this afternoon. Lady next to me keeps nudging me and exclaiming. I would sort of have understood it if she'd been on her own, but she was with her husband. Why pick on me and not him?

A bit off-topic, but if you've experienced bad behaviour at a show you'll probably enjoy this

The Cher Show Thursday night in Liverpool, great show but the amount of women trying to sing and dance (just wait till the end!) was shocking. Seen a few get kicked out. Also read this comment on Facebook:
“And to tell you your not allowed to sing never heard anything so rediculous 😡”
Also
“Just got home. Well the show was good but bloody hell couldn’t sing or shimmy without security coming up to me more than 6 times at one point I got told off for texting my husband to see how the 6 month old baby was. Don’t go the empire if your after a good night”
When will people realise you can’t sing mid-show, it’s so rude!

I kind of understand checking on your baby (although why not wait for the interval), but being told off multiple times previously for being disruptive won’t make the ushers at all sympathetic

“More than 6 times” 🤣 Wow. I would be mortified if I was told off once.
They really do need to make it clearer when something is a concert where you can sing as much as you want, or a play where you’d be expected to pipe down.

I saw another comment on Twitter about a Liverpool performance of The Cher Show - someone who’d enjoyed the show but found the screeching and attempts at singing along from those around them very annoying.
It’s just so frustrating people don’t understand that at the theatre one should sit still, be quiet and enjoy the show you’ve paid to see!

Last night at Lemons… the audience were incredibly frustrating. If it wasn’t sweet wrappers, it was coughing or checking phones. The play is 90 minutes and yet people still couldn’t just sit still! So frustrating!

So frustrating! It’s at the Harold Pinter isn’t it? I still remember the wonderful usherette there who told the lady next to me not to unwrap her rustly sweet wrapper during Prima Facie. She should’ve got a medal!

They really do need to make it clearer when something is a concert where you can sing as much as you want, or a play where you’d be expected to pipe down. I've seen touring musicals advertised under such tags as "It's a party in the theatre!" and "They were dancing in the aisles!" (these meant as enticements), so sometimes miscreants might be able to claim that they were told in advance that their behaviour would be OK.

So frustrating! Yes on Monday, some people were allowed in AFTER the play had started, and the whole 3rd row had to get up to let them sit. Then some bright spark decided to start eating their snacks during the performance, with accompanying rustling of wrappers. People think it's the cinema?? (and even then it's not acceptable!!)

I need to report myself for bad behaviour!
Last Sunday I got told off by FOH staff for taking a photo during the bows at Newsies. I was very good and immediately put my phone away. However, in my defense M'lord, there were people allover the place taking photos of the bows and also at previous performances I have attended of this show so presumed it was ok. Plus there was no announcement made to say it was forbidden. I guess I was singled out as the usher was standing right next to me so I was an easy target. I do find it odd though as social media for the show (their official Insta and Twitter accounts) are full of peoples photos and videos that they have shared and commented on so they need to decide which side of the fence they want to be on.

First time seeing Jersey Boys yesterday. I had heard many unpleasant experiences surrounding this show and the questionable audience behaviour.
After Act 1 I thought there was nothing to worry about, for the most part everyone was being well-behaved and I've not had as many bad experiences in Edinburgh compared to London trips. I don't know what happened at interval but obviously some people were getting impatient with the plot and just wanted to hear them sing. I think they were shouting "Bring on the boys" during quite emotional parts of the story. After the third time, other audience members took it upon themselves to respond "shut up".
The ushers are out for blood at the Edinburgh Playhouse and even though it wasn't happening near me, the usher nearest me bolted it to try sort out the situation. I believe they were kicked out?
Other than those disrupted 5 minutes or so, the rest of the audience weren't too bad. A couple of inappropriate bits of shouting back to the actors, but that quickly stopped when the only attention they were getting were from the ushers death-stare. The amount of people going into this show expecting a concert is crazy.
