I saw Gavin twice in Waitress with Sara and he was brilliant. I have a deep emotional attachment to Waitress as a show that was there for me in the “lower” moments of my life. I was very lucky to see the show on the 13th of March 2020; just before lockdown began. Both of them gave performances that were both hilarious and poignant, and I remember Gavin losing his balance and slipping onto the floor during the reprise of Bad Idea, which brought the house down. It was clear that Gavin and Sara had a great rapport both onstage and off.
I work in ticketing and have a few friends who worked with him on Book of Mormon when he opened it in London, who had talked about him a lot. He would always make time to chat with everyone, and even threw many parties during his time as Elder Price, inviting not only the Box Office team but also the entire Front of House team, and paying for everything out of his own pocket. People working in theatre will know this is not a common occurrence. I feel his generosity and kindness need to be mentioned at this time.
I have found myself on the verge of tears many times this evening, it’s just so unfair when things like this happen.

Really genuinely shocked by this. I had no idea he was ill but it seems it took him so quickly. So so sad. He was so talented and seems to be one of those people who was genuinely loved as a person throughout the industry.

This one has really crushed me, I was only listening to Hair last week thinking that he's due another show over here soon, it's weird how these things often happen. What a great loss, a true gent and such an incredible talent. He was one of my favourite male MT voices.
The outpouring of love and stories from friends and fans alike show how universally loved he was.
My main memory that sticks out of him (apart from his amazing performances) was during a Book of Mormon performance, during I believe, his voice cracked when he went for a riff. After the show at stage door, he came out and asked if we'd noticed the crack and then started laughing when we said we had, he said that he decided to eat some peanuts just before that song and a bit got stuck at the back of his throat when he went for the riff. Funny. He was a lovely man.

This one really hits hard. I first saw Gavin in Hair when the Original Broadway Cast came over to London. I loved that show and Gavin's Claude was just magical. Was lucky enough to also see him in Book of Mormon, She loves me and Hello, Dolly.
He was such a wonderful performer with the most sublime voice. I only spoke to him a few times but he always came across as a really nice, down to earth person. The outpouring of love from fellow performers, friends and fans both warms and breaks my heart.

This is truly sad news. I'm still in shock. This is hearbreaking.
I saw him for the first time in Thoroughly Modern Milly on Broadway. In the West End I saw him in Mary Poppins, Hair, The Book of Mormon and Waitress. He was always excellent.
I have seen TBOM many times and he really had the edge as Elder Price. A truly fantastic performance. So glad he won the Olivier Award.

I was so surprised by this sad news. Had the pleasure of seeing him on stage in Waitress back in 2020, it was one of the first shows I watched in London. And it was the first time I did stage door (I wasn’t even aware that that was a thing before). I was (still am) way too awkward to go beyond the basic “loved your performance “ and to ask to sign a program (didn’t even had a pen with me, another theatre goer lend me hers). But thought he was really nice and charming. May he rest in peace, the theatre world will miss him 💔

I feel totally the same.
Aside from his wonderful talent- he was clearly a gorgeous person and most beloved by all who knew him. The loss is hard to comprehend right now, and I didn’t even know him personally.

I wasn’t expecting this news, truly horrific. When he was in Book of Mormon, I remember speaking with him, he had his adored pet dog with him. Exactly the same for me. This has really shocked me as he was one of my favourite American performers. The amount of performers saying how generous, lovely and kind he was is off the scale. |

Very sad news! I also had the pleasure of seeing him in Waitress, and he was phenomenal! My partner saw him in The Book of Mormon and loved him.

Utterly heartbroken by this news as Gavin was my favourite performer. The outpouring of love from everyone who ever interacted with him goes to show what a gem of a human he was.
