The tour started this week and already on seat filler sites. How does this work? How does anyone make any money? How is Broadway more cut throat in the sense that if it’s not selling the production closes? Genuinely interested.

How is Broadway more cut throat in the sense that if it’s not selling the production closes? Genuinely interested. I don't think you are comparing like for like. A series of 1 nighters on tour is very different to an open ended run on Broadway/WestEnd. A Broadway/WestEnd house may have other shows ready and willing to take over if its current show is struggling. Canceling a one night show at a venue will probably leave that venue dark. Also how do you know the show isn't making money? The show probably doesn't have massive costs. Also and I have no inside knowledge but I would imagine most concerts for an a solo artist or a band sell most of their total tickets sales when they first go on sale because they will have been heavily advertised to fans before they go on sale. They may have decided to discount the remaining seats to give a nicer atmosphere for everyone and it is better to get some money for the seats than none. If they are selling say the last 10% of seats at a heavy discount that is probably fine. If they have 60% of seats still to sell that is more likely a problem.

She's also in quite big theatres I think? I don't know the difference in cost between going to a 1000 seater and a 2000 seater, but it won't be double.
So it's probably better to sell 1500 seats and seat fill at a discount than sell out a 1000 seater.

Giving away a ticket doesn't automatically mean that the promoter doesn't make money. People still buy programmes, merchandise, drinks etc.

Went to this for Jamie Muscato.
The whole thing is very cringe and mostly aimed at teens who think things like “we are all a little lost” are wise and profound.
Vocally Carried didn’t wow me - she tried to belt but just couldn’t do it.
Song choices were forgettable and I honestly couldn’t tell you one I remember except the duets - Falling Slowly and First Dats, Last Night.

I don't think she's found her post-teen audience yet.

On her last tour wasn’t there some sort of “random” element to how the songs she performed were chosen in the night? Is this the same?

It seemed to be, she kept saying and the next letter you asked me to read. So maybe there was a voting thing again. I only bought my ticket this afternoon so don’t know.
The show was very bland, very samey. It’s a shame as she has charisma and she can sing but the material was all so dull.
I thought she was very brave to do this when her baby is so young.
Her brother popped on for a song in the second half which woke everyone up for a minute.
Not really sure what to make of it really.

Yeah she read what was ostensibly a letter she hasn’t seen before written by someone from the audience but it was written in her exact tone and using her phraseology and she at no point paused like one would when reading something unfamiliar. So definitely a fib.

Strange one this. Verrry tenuous links from her life to the songs she sang. Home from Beetlejuice dedicated to her (alive) Mum. Death is just around the corner - ill judged perhaps with the out pouring of grief for GC just now. Will appeal to the ‘Live, Love, Laugh’ profound quote of the day folks maybe. Famous guest star Tom Fletcher there to bolster future sales maybe in hopes he might turn up to one of the other theatres on the tour?

I enjoyed this last night. Similar format to her last tour, it’s very much scripted and “performed” and I wish she would allow herself to relax a bit more. I’m sure all performers rehearse their anecdotes and stories for their concerts but this felt overly scripted. But then there’s the voice and she didn’t disappoint with the singing, very talented and a very good mix of songs although I did think the Morticia Addams Family song was very out of place. Certainly an appreciative audience and I’d be down for going to another concert of hers again.

It does work though - my friend bought a ticket in the hope of Tom appearing and is delighted she got to see him! Although she did feel it was like a balloon had popped when he left the stage as she didn't enjoy the show overall.

She said the people in the audience who had written the letter didn't know theirs was the one that had been chosen.

On the second night she said about there being an exciting letter on stage because it wasn’t written by her. Maybe on the 1st night she hadn’t fully worked out what she was going to say for that part and it was a slip of the tongue.
