Tomorrow is National Cinema Day (not sure how long this has been a thing) and lots of cinemas have reduced their ticket prices to £4 (plus booking fee) for the day. We're taking advantage of this to go and see Sing Sing. Curzon, Picturehouse, Vue etc. all taking part.

I remember it was earlier in the summer & some friends of mine went to a preview screening (they had a few one-off exclusives thrown in) of James and the Giant Peach and I was jealous. And the following year, I went to a preview of The Fifth Element but it was 9.30 in the morning because they had to squeeze so many showings in. I remember it started as being £1 a film.

Picturehouse still have £1 screenings for members, often for one of the latest films. Cinema day is wonderful though, I have a friend who takes it as a challenge and tries to see as many different films in as many different cinemas as possible.😆

That's really interesting alicechallice There is a whole blank area in my cultural life coinciding with the period when National Cinema Day started and the decade that followed. By 2001 I had three children under the age of 4 and so there are films/ theatre/ exhibitions that completely passed me by! As kallyloo says the Picturehouse does still do its £1 tickets. Which is another reason why I am still sulking that our Picturehouse (Stratford) closed down earlier this summer. My membership carries over to other picturehouses but that involves getting on to busy public transport so I'm less likely to do that - or to renew my membership when the current one runs out.
