New production of Waiting for Godot, starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter in Autumn 2025. Directed by man of the week, Jamie Lloyd. godotbroadway.com/What do people think of a Lloyd-directed Godot? Although I think it has the potential to be very good, I fear it will not help his reputation much - I cannot see this being more than a Seagull-esque act of minimalism, tracksuits and microphones, adding to the reductive narrative that has built around his direction since "Sunset Boulevard." Good casting, though, and I have a feeling he'll have some interesting stuff to get out of Beckett.

It’s been performed by Mayall and Edmondson in the past, I don’t think you need to have been personally tutored by Stanislavsky to do this (have either of them done any theatre work?): in the meantime, party on dudes and be excellent to each other…

Also Lloyd won't have the freedom to do what he usually does.
The Beckett estate are very strict about requiring the original text and stage instructions to be followed rigidly.

Jamie... are you feeling a bit overworked, dear?

I’m presuming he’s got a Damien Hirst/Andy Warhol thing going on where he has um ‘acolytes/assistants/minions’ working on projects that he feels he can leave projects with and he just checks in on them now and then to see how things are progressing.

The Beckett estate are very strict about requiring the original text and stage instructions to be followed rigidly. That is the common perception but the McKellen/Stewart production of some years ago made changes to the text and put in an extraneous song and dance interlude at the end so who knows.

It was certainly enforced in The Netherlands a couple of years ago where a student company were seeking to stage it. They cast it - following the no cross casting rule dictated by the Estate - and the venue cancelled the production because they hadn't had a casting process open to all. There was a recent small scale UK tour of a piece based around the ban on women performing in this play. So the Estate do get involved and make life complicated for creatives.

Yes I was just questioning the level of the interventions they might make. I was amazed they allowed a few words in the text to be changed for the McKellen version which also ignored some of the stage directions.

I don't think I can resist this one, though it might not be the best choice for Keanu. Signed up for early access info - though rather sneakily, you can't sign up for that without also opting in to hear about 'other productions'.

Bill S Preston Esquire and Ted Theodoore Logan, WOAH!!
Certainly an interesting casting choice, not who would have been anywhere near my top 1000 people I want to see in WFG. Would think it will also impact the casting of Pozzo and Lucky as you don't want them overshadowing the central pair.
...unless Reeves and Winter are playing Pozzo and Lucky but that would surely lead to a lot of very very unsatisfied customers.

Walking out of Tottenham Court Road tube station earlier, I saw that Keanu has co-written a book of what looked a load of William Gibsonesque sh*te aimed at the Matrix aficionados: with that, Dogstar on tour recently and this, he’s remodelling himself as quite the modern day renaissance man 🤣

Do you think any of the reviews will be tempted to say it was EXCELLENT! *Mimes electric guitar* or will it be BOGUS?!

I hope they inject a couple of ‘whoah’s and ‘awesome!’s into proceedings, and maybe God Gave Rock and Roll or Every Rose Has A Thorn can be played at the final curtain
