Robert Downey Jr. making his Broadway debut in this, written by Ayad Akhtar and directed by Bartlett Sher, starting September 5th. Tickets on sale from May 21st, let’s see if he can outdo Tom Holland for online queues and ticket sales 🤣 All my overseas holidays are spoken for this year so I won’t be investigating but good luck to anybody on here who goes for it.

I'll be in New York at the right time, so I think I'll try my luck. Stupidly booking opens at 6pm only which is midnight here, so I'll probably be asleep when it's my time in the queue and by the time I wake up, it'll be sold out. But sleep > Downey

I think it’s more likely that actors of a certain level that let’s say, want to work outside of their usual comfort zone will go to a director like him hoping it will attract artistic respect: not sure if the likes of Bobcat Goldthwaite, Steve Guttenberg and Paulie Shore will be knocking on his door (and him answering)

Is Bartlett Sher the only theater director in the US? No but he's associate director at Lincoln Center Theater. RDJ in a play will sell extremely well. I can't remember if he's ever done theatre though. |

This will be his broadway debut. He did perform in an off-Broadway production - American Passion alongside Jane Krakowski in 1983.

Priority booking opens to members on Tuesday. Membership is $50 and the ticket $80 which is a bargain considering Broadway prices. I didn’t have problems booking for an Uncle Vanya with Steve Carell and don’t think this will be different.

I didn’t have problems booking for an Uncle Vanya with Steve Carell and don’t think this will be different. That seems a steal. Can I ask, is $80 a flat price for all members tickets for this or just a starting point? I'm heading back to NYC later this year and this just about coincides with my dates, so I'm pretty keen to book. The price of Broadway tickets was an unwelcome shock to the system when I went last year so this time around I'm looking to save some pennies where possible! And as you say, a combined $130 for a priority ticket sounds like it'll be considerably cheaper than the standard Broadway/Telecharge prices. Just wondering if there's a catch! |

Oh yeah I would only recommend rush for normal shows, i.e. without big Hollywood names. Also, funny enough, LCT doesn’t have in person rush, sometimes they do TodayTix but I’m assuming it’s only when the show doesn’t sell out. Anyway, their membership is really great and I bet most Marvel fans won’t know about it😂 |

Looking on TodayTix, I’m surprised to see this is only doing a less than three month run but I guess he wanted to see how much he enjoyed it before signing up for a bumper run (and he has enough money not to do so, especially after being given god knows how much to play Doctor Doom): an interesting supporting cast though.

The reviews are out and they’re less than glowing: among them, The Guardian has given it three star and the New York Post one star ‘a total wipeout’ so I’ve dodged a bullet not booking this.

Just as a future heads up, don’t rely on trusting the New York Post for anything; it’s their equivalent of being a reader of the Daily Mail or The Sun! |
