A composer, high on MDMA, reads a chapter of Tolstoy's War & Peace, tells everyone "Hold my beer" and comes up with a crazy electropop adaptation that fuses synthizers with Russian folk music and the audience gets to eat Russian dumplings. Oh you are good! You should write the blurb on dvd cases (twenty years ago 😂).

Was not a fan of the show State Side but the production design as well as sound design (considering most of the ensemble were actor muso) was the best I’ve ever seen and outs a lot of shows to shame. I’m curious to see how it would work in a smaller space.

Soooo excited by this. I've never been able to click with the OBC but have loved all three Dave Malloy shows I have seen (Witches, Preludes and the incredible Ghost Quartet) so I have high hopes that this will fall into place when I finally see it on stage.

With the Broadway version quite immersive (in terms of action/walkways in and out of the audience) if it was a big hit here then it could be good for the reconfigured Playhouse, if 'Cabaret' has lost steam by then. However, I'm more than a bit previous with talk of a transfer! Also, if 'Cabaret' doesn't do as well as hoped on Broadway, any investors in common between West End and Broadway may want to get the remaining life out of the production that soared.

max you have reminded me of how I felt when. I first saw the Kit Kat Club in previews!!! It was a throwback to GC 🤣 It was only when I looked (this evening) at a bootleg video of the NYC show on youtube that I thought of the current Playhouse as similar; but then I did wonder if the debt is the other way around and 'Great Comet' influenced what they did with 'Cabaret'. Despite all that, when I read your post just now on "a throwback to GC" my first thought was: "GC?...GC....um....Gemma Collins?" lol

Well that's exciting! Really hope the dates can work for me. The Donmar's really been providing on the musicals front recently with finally getting Next to Normal in the UK as well.

I didn’t like PRELUDES when I saw it at Southwark. I never got to see GHOST QUARTET, as the performance I was meant to be going to was cancelled due to a technical fault.
I am interested in GREAT COMET though. Sounded really interesting when it was in New York, though I can’t imagine they will replicate that staging at the Donmar. Can they do immersive there due to the size of the space?
Hopefully this is true.

Playing December 24 to January 25! That seems a very short run Beginning of December to the end of January is similar to Macbeth's run so not unfeasible.

They are going to have a hard time competing with the Broadway version - which was phenomenal! Staging was insane ... especially the immersive on stage seating.

We saw the show when it was in the (very large) tent by the High Line, and when it played on Broadway with Josh Groban. I much prefeered Dave Malloy's more straight forward Pierre and the more immersive tent production, even though they'd tried hard to adapt the Imperial Theatre to involve the audience. I enjoy the sparser off Broadway recording to the Groban one. The (pretty luxurious) tent production looks like it was a lot bigger than the original Ars Nova production. From the brief on line video clips of the original AN production I reckon it's maybe just a bit larger than the Donamr. I suspect (hope!) it'll be most akin to the original production.

Purposely saw this in Seoul, South Korea when I travelled there last month cause I thought it would never ever come to London. Very glad to here this rumours. I think it could fit any theatre as long as they manage on stage seats appropriately.
