I cringe every time I think of Terence Stamp trying to do the choreo in the original.

Two little known facts about the first film:
1/ In one of the final dance sequences where they're dressed a frill-necked lizards, and they stick their blue tongues out, for Terence Stamp, that was the last straw.
Through make-up and costumes that had 'transformed' him into a woman, made his wear outlandish outfits and lip-synch classic songs, but the blue tongues was where he drew the line.
2/ A lot of people don't know this but Stephen Elliot, who directed the first film, also has a cameo.
When the Pricilla bus finally arrives at it's destination at the resort, there are the holiday reps there to greet them, one of which engages in conversation. That is Stephen Elliott.
One of the great things about the first film are the fantastic shots of central Australia.
Of course there is the juxtaposition of the colours of the costumes and boas against that arid backdrop.

Sounds like Stamp had about as much understanding of drag as he had natural rhythm. Terrible casting really, given that he was playing some sort of iconic drag performer. Guy Pierce totally outshone him.

It was amazing that Stamp agreed to do it.
It was certainly a break-out role for Craig Pierce who had only starred in LA Confidential before that after leaving neighbours- a role that was originally offered to Jason Donovan who turned it down as, at the time, he was over here fighting a legal case against a newspaper who were questioning his sexuality, a case which he won.
Starring in such a film would not have helped his case!
And here you had three straight actors portraying such colourful characters.
There are classic one liners, mostly delivered by Stamp in his dry tone:
"Now listen here, you mullet. Why don't you just light your tampon, and blow your box apart? Because it's the only bang you're ever gonna get, sweetheart!"
"That's just what this country needs: a cock in a frock on a rock."
"Is it true when you were born the doctor turned around and slapped your mother?"
"Oh, for goodness sakes, get down off that crucifix. Someone needs the wood."
"One more push, I'm gonna to smack his face so hard he'll have to stick his toothbrush up his arse to clean his teeth!"

Correction: Guy Pearce, not Craig Pearce!

My admiration for Stamp would definitely go up if he's doing heels at 85!

I only just heard about the plans for this movie, and whilst it's great that the original stars are up for it I do worry about the sensitivities of Terence Stamp - a straight, cis male - playing a transgender woman in today's climate. He obviously originated the role, but our understanding, awareness and sympathy towards transgender characters has changed hugely since the original was shot.
I'm not personally saying he shouldn't play the role, but I am concerned that the movie will need to be incredibly sensitive with the way she's portrayed. If they get it wrong or don't pre-empt the inevitable questions surrounding a cis male playing a transgender woman in interviews and such, it could all become a bit of a sh*t show and overshadow the movie itself, and that would be a real shame.

I wonder if Benjamin, Tick's son might appear in the film? Plot wise, I think the trip should be East to West so Sydney to Perth plus it's a much longer journey by bus, 42 hours compared to a mere 29 hours to drive from Sydney to Alice Springs.
