How loud are the gunshots? And how regular? From memory, there are a few "explosions" (bangs and pyros) during the first song, normally at the edge of the stage. It calms down a bit after that. Also, I think the gunshots later were recordings. I hate explosions and gunshots as well, but the whole soundtrack is loud rock, so the bangs fade into the background a lot more than most musicals. So there wasn't anything there that made me jump. I was back in the stalls too, so further away. I definitely don't recommend seats too close to the front and definitely not off-centre, as not only will you be nearer the bangs, the view is obstructed so you won't always know what's coming. |

Board members are reminded that mention of "papering" company names is NEVER permitted, and that they could be banned by both the company involved and this board for doing so. It's also really annoying for those of us who aren't lucky enough to be in the know to ever get any decent free tickets! Agree! Seen Bat 3 times at Dominion so far coughing up full whack each time. V annoying to know you're surrounded by people who got in for free. Anyway. Moan over. I love this show. The music, the spectacle, the sensory overload, it's brilliant. And such a talented cast. I really hope it finds it's feet and finds the audience to sustain an open ended run. Oh sorry I do have one more moan. There is a #fangirl problem here. I get that there's always gonna be die hard Steinman fans who think they're at a rock concert. But there was a group of girls yesterday who were opening their mouths, screaming, and then eventually closing them, at the entrances of even the most minor characters, at the start of every song, including the quiet ones and at every 'joke.' Awful. Hope the fan girl issue doesn't accelerate towards Wicked levels. |

I did have a couple sitting next to me who thought it was perfectly acceptable to sing along (badly). Luckily they only seemed to know about four songs.
I’ve had Meat Loaf in my head for the past two days. Now a little bit disappointed that Life Is A Lemon (and I Want My Money Back) wasn’t sung in full.

I honestly don't mind coughing up full whack (well, for the cheap front row) because it means I'm supporting a show I love and contribute (in a tiny way) to it doing well and living longer (hopefully).
How many of those who went for free would have gone at all otherwise? In that case I also don't mind them being there just to help filling that huge barn because a full theatre always has a different atmosphere than a half-empty one and if at least some of them go home and tell others they enjoyed themselves and inspire them to buy tickets, it's been worth it.

That was the first show I ever saw as a child. I’d like to revisit it once as I really don’t remember much, but I thought my 12 times for Wicked was excessive before I joined this board. Ha. Yeah when I like a show I tend to love it. That's my fave though. First went when I was 9 and I'm 41 so it is spread over 32 years.... In fact Bat reminds me of Starlight a bit in terms of it's intense sensory experience. Love how it takes up your entire field of vision! |

I do feel annoyed when I pay a decent whack of money to see a show then later realise I could have got in for much cheaper, but the way I see it, it was worth it to me to spend that decent whack of money in the first place, and I wouldn't have spent that decent whack of money if I couldn't have afforded it, so it really really is no skin off my nose at the end of the day. More expensive theatre tickets subsidise cheaper tickets, and I'm usually the beneficiary of that, so it really won't kill me to be the one paying more than my seat neighbours for once.

Do you know how much it’s selling for? The CD is £20 - may be they’ve cornered the supply until it’s opened (similar to the Jamie embargo until next week)? I have a copy which cost a fair bit less from when it briefly became widely available on Amazon and there’s always Spotify while you wait for it to come back into stock. it lacks some of the belt from the live show, especially What Hurts The Most, which was a tour de force two weeks ago. |

Which is interesting as Ann Treneman gave it 4* in The Times when it was at the Coliseum (if you can believe it!!) and now Dominic Maxwell has dropped it down to 2. Which I guess just shows how completely subjective it is. Or that it's not as good as last year - but hard to tell with a different reviewer from last time! |

I wouldn't trust Dominic Maxwell since he published his list of the greatest 100 plays ever written ever, and decided that The Real Thing was a better Stoppard play than Arcadia. He also tried to come up with reasons why Art doesn't often show up on these lists, and never quite managed to hit on the true answer, "'cos it's just not that great, Dom". And finally he took the coward's option and chose Hamlet to represent the entirety of the Shakespeare canon. So yeah, I definitely can't consider him an arbiter of quality theatre anymore.

Well the atmosphere at the press night last night was really something pretty special. There were obviously a large number of attendees from the various fan groups - all very enthusiastic, cheering when certain characters appeared etc, but all really nice people. I'm not sure I've seen a curtain call quite like it! Fingers crossed for the rest of the reviews being positive - I feel like this show deserves it. I was sat in row E of the stalls directly underneath {Spoiler - click to view}
the flight of the bats at the end, and I spotted the wire this time! It really is crazy thin - still very impressed with that effect
