Do we really think Tom's teenage fans are going to sit through this quietly, respectful of other patrons?
Or are they just going to scream every time he says anything?
God help us if there's a shirtless scene.
I imagine there'll be shouts of "Don't do it Tom" in the final scene.

I remember when Tennant was watching Tate in a play after their first run in Doctor Who, and Who fans heard he was going and bought tickets. And then sang the Doctor Who theme tune etc… during the show. So goodness knows, we may get people singing “Spider-man, Spider-man, does whatever a spider can.” Also, god help the people policing the stage door.

I remember when the lad from Harry Potter was Clov in Beckett's Endgame at the Old Vic. Fan wise, by the end, the bloke at the window wasn't the only one contemplating suicide.

Especially as there’s little pavement / off-road space outside the DOY. The crowd for Sheridan Smith after Shirley Valentine was big and blocked half the road - for Tom it’ll be bigger I’m sure!

I reckon it's possible they won't do stage door at all, or will do it once and then realise it's too much chaos
Didn't NS very rarely do it in Sunset?

For his - and everyone else's - safety, I genuinely hope that Tom doesn't do stage door for this. I suspect he'll try in the beginning though.

The producers will want him to do stage door for at least the first few previews. Then it will stop. I don’t think the audiences for this will be disrespectful at all. I’ve found younger audiences attending star-led shows to be almost silent with respect. Until the curtain call. Contrast that with the middle-aged nightmares at Plaza Suite and the way they’ve been behaving.

Apologies if this has been asked or discussed already, but is there likely to be an NT Live of this? Shakespeare plays with big star names usually end up getting streamed and I'm sure it would sell out cinemas too.

Considering video is likely to be part of this, filming is always tricky for a cinema release.
That said, there are holds in the NT Live calendar for cinemas that would date wise line up, so it's certainly possible.

Has anyone heard any rumours of when the Key Worker tickets will go on sale? 🤔

Amy Adams came out every night during Glass Menagerie so possible he’ll come out. It’s a small theatre and if properly managed, it could be a nice thing for some fans to meet Tom after a show if he’s up for it. DOY capacity is around 600 and I imagine only a fraction will stick around for it

They could do with announcing more casting on this.
Given how absent Romeo is through the middle of the play, it would be interesting to see more details

I'm assuming Tom will be the main name and everyone else will be emerging actors / grads. Maybe 2 veteran stage actors as Lord and Lady Capulet but not anyone who would be a household name as such. Keen to see who will be playing Mercutio

I think we'll probably get some quite a few JL alumni in the supporting roles. I could see actors like Michelle Austin, Tom Eden, John Simms, Daniel Monks working well.

Can’t believe they have not announced who is playing Juliet: in these days off equality and inclusion I thought that would have been one of the first announcements; I gave up on booking this when I saw the humongous online queue for tickets but surely someone might be keener to see who Juliet will be rather?

This play lives or dies on its Juliet, her’s is the role around which all the others pivot, her balance of innocence and worldliness along with her embodiment of first love is infectious and exciting in all the best productions.
Romeo fo me is a vanilla Shakespearean role, plenty more male roles for an actor to prove his chops, Tom’s Richard III would have been much more enticing.

Juliet has now been cast, but guessing they'll want a poster with them both on a) to announce her, and b) to replace the god awful one they announced Tom with.

Could you imagine the stage door for that?! I agree, Juliet features in the title and should have been announced at the same time…however the producers have made their money now anyway.

I would imagine a good 90% of the audience who have tickets for this will go 'who?' at the Juliet as it'll be a theatre name, so I'm not at all surprised they just sold it off Holland.

Not sure that playing Billy is much use as training to play Romeo

Not sure that playing Billy is much use as training to play Romeo Maybe not, but he seems committed to acting rather than just being a movie star. He was very good as a child actor in The Impossible, and he has done some very good performances in dark and heavy roles in various things on streaming platforms. His screen roles are more diverse than just Spiderman. Billy Elliot certainly isn't a bad place to have started stage work. That's a big role, its not like he was one of the banks kids or child eponine/cosette. I think he has potential to be a very good romeo.

Maybe. But tackling Shakespeare for the first time is something that requires proper support and training.
R&J is particularly verse heavy and has a higher than average number of rhyming lines. You need to understand how to navigate that to fully get to grips with it

Not sure that playing Billy is much use as training to play Romeo Sure, but he has experience of being on stage, which is a massive plus - I think what we've seen him do so far on screen also points to the fact he can do it. Let's also not forget that Jamie Lloyd will likely reinvent this in some way, so it's not going to be your traditional Romeo.

I think Florence Pugh would be good as Juliet but I think she's too busy.

The Daily Fail papped Tom Holland going for a 3 hour long chemistry read with actress Francesca Amewudah-Rivers. This was about nine days ago so I'm guessing at that this stage of pre-production she either is Juliet or was one of the Juliet finalists.
Rehearsals will surely start soon and that should mean the rest of the cast list being announced.
