Shocked at the lack of nominations for Saltburn, particularly for Rosamund Pike, and All of Us Strangers.

All of us Strangers I predicted would do well at BAFTA but be snubbed by OScars as its British and indie.
Saltburn just isn't as clever as Emerald Fennell seems to think it is - the acting categories are stacked though but I wouldn't have been mad if Pike had been nominated

Ryan Gosling nominated for Supporting Actor, as he should be. America Ferrera's nomination is a bit weird. She gave one overblown speech that could have been delivered by anyone, and was fairly forgettable otherwise.
And nothing for Margot Robbie, for the same damn film? The actual star of the film? She gave a fantastic performance in that, and if they can recognise that in Ken it seems way off to not recognise it in Barbie.

America Ferrera's nomination for that sophomoric speech is ludicrous, and the lack of nomination for Charles Melton is nothing short of criminal

I think there’s just a lot of *now*people involved.

Yes, Since they expanded the best picture category, this is always going to be true. Barbie was the cultural phenomenon of the year and the biggest movie, waaaay more than any of the other movies on the list bar, perhaps, Oppenheimer. Although Oppenheimer got reflected. Barbie attention opening on the same day. Nods for supporting actor categories and not best actress for the eponymous heroine? The Oscars don’t like blockbusters.

Who would you switch out for Greta and Margot though? I thought they were both great but I think all the directors nominated are more than deserving and there are other performances that also weren't nominated for best actress that I'd swap in over Margot. Some people have to miss in every category and this time it happened to be these two.

Delighted with the nominations for Annette Bening and Jodie Foster, though either of them winning in their categories would be a massive upset.

Comedy films rarely do as well as serious/tragic ones at many ceremonies.
Barbie was clearly not going to be seen as award worthy compared with something more heavyweight.
It has garnered a number of nominations and I think will pick up some wins. But it doesn't fit the pattern for successful Oscar films.

I bet Warner Bros was surprised that Barbie got Best Picture and not The Color Purple.
I did like Saltburn but I suspect it was a bit too weird for the Academy.

Saltburn just isn't that good a movie. I think its very telling that really all anyone is talking about is the few 'shocking' scenes. I don't think anything could be too weird for the academy based on previous noms and wins.
Barbie was a pretty average film in many ways and Ryan did run away with the movie in termsof performance. Mind you I though Oppenheimer was a bit of a slog, but definitely technically a better made film.

They definitely weren't, Barbie was basically a lock for Best Picture a week after release and it got in at almost every pre-cursor award, the same can't be said for The Color Purple which has gotten a tepid response for the most part and has only had real enthusiasm for some of the actors.

I lasted until best supporting actress, and would have switched off earlier had Richard Armitage not been on Wossy's incredibly dire preshow. Kimmel's jokes dying a death and Mary Steenbergen not being able to read the autocue (you'd think an Oscar winning actress could memorize one sentence, or don't they rehearse these things any more?) sent me off to bed. Thankfully it seems I missed out on nothing!

Great that Nolan finally won an Oscar for best picture and best film but amusing he lost best original screenplay to Anatomy of a Fall. He's a great director but I've always thought he would benefit from a co writer like he did with The Dark Knight Trilogy.

No real surprises with the winners but overall I enjoyed the ceremony. Ryan Gosling’s performance was fun and definitely lifted the spirit/mood in the room! They love an ad break though 🙄

Was gunning for Lily Gladstone (for some unknown reason, she follows me on Twitter!). Emma Stone was impressive in Poor Things but I just didn't like the film that much.
The whole bringing out five past winners to sing the current nominee's praises in the acting categories is always good in theory and dreadful in practise. The over the top words they speak to one another are so cringeworthy. And at he expense of clips! Bring back the clips!
Al Pacino was also a disaster announcing Best Picture. Seemed like he was wilfully going off script and thought his charisma would suffice. It did not. Michelle Pfeiffer was supposed to present with him but had to pull out, maybe she would have saved the day.

I didn’t know the Oscars were being shown on ITV until midnight on Sunday so missed the first few awards (thankfully it was being a lot earlier than I remember them being in at in previous years, and I was surprised ITV showed the whole thing straight through without any ad breaks, although the ‘experts’ they had commenting with Jonathan Ross were all C grade)
I enjoyed Jimmy Kimmels compering, much better than the dross served by at the BAFTAs in recent years and of all the guests announcing the awards, enjoyed Schwarzenegger and De Vito (with a cameo from Michael Keaton) the most, with regards to Pacino at the end, the nominees for Best Picture had already been announced throughout the night, he could have maybe ‘WOOHA!’d it up a little bit when he said Oppenheimer but I think the organisers had told him to make it brief (I notice Bob De Niro didn’t look too impressed when he walked out on stage🤣)
As for the awards themselves, no real surprises but I’m not sure Cillian Murphy gave an amazing performance in Oppenheimer, I would have said Paul Giamatti should have won for The Holdovers but I’m glad that Da’Vine Joy Randolph won for best supporting actress, I thought she thoroughly deserved to win that.

Robert Downey Jr has gone from person addicted to drugs to Oscar winner. Shows us with hard work anything is possible Hollywood loves a redemption story. As for the rest, it was nice to see Poor Things being recognised, but Oppenheimer's tally and much else was undeserved in my view. Nolan is a brilliant technician, but he's a mediocre story teller with the exception of Momento.
