I got a record player for Christmas and today bought my first musical vinyl - The Tick Tick Boom Movie Soundtrack. Keen to build my collection anyone any recommendation / ideas what’s out there for a musical fan?

Get into your many local charity shops. I guarantee you’ll find at least one MT treasure in there! x

Charity shops are your friend, as (sadly) house clearances of late elderly relatives mean donated vinyl is booming.
Second hand record shops are also your friend.
Found a copy of The King and I musical with Yul Brynner with a scribbled autograph. I bought it for £5 thinking it may be cool to discover whose autograph it is.
It was the man himself.
Unfortunately for me not a possible triumph - looks like the record label sat him down in 1977 or so, and had him sign a whole stack. 😂

As others have said — check out your local charity shops! Most of my musical theatre vinyl has come from them. Got Evita for 50p about ten years ago from an oxfam!

I have ALW’s Cinderella signed by the Lord himself and Carrie Hope Fletcher.
Surely that’s got be something of a collector’s item given their relationship since?

Like others have said charity shops and antique shops (where they do house clearances) are great sources, I've picked up many musical vinyls that way. Independent record shops sometimes are a good bet as well, I've found some gems in them. One of my favourite finds was an original Mary Poppins film cast vinyl at Amoeba Music in Hollywood! A good source to look at what is out there, to make your own wish lists and to catalogue your collection is www.discogs.com/ - I also use it to price check vinyls when I find them in shops, to make sure I'm not overpaying as they have an active market place on there too.

Sometimes some of the really older musicals have little booklets contained within- usually about 3 or 4 pages long with images from the film- which framed, look excellent!
I know I once many years ago I picked up an old scratched vinyl of Oliver! Chucked away the vinyl and the inner sleeve and kept the image of Oliver and the Artful Dodger and another of Fagin.
Purchased a cheap frame from Urban Outfitters and they look great! I also currently have a vinyl in a frame of west Side Story.

I have a whole lot of old musical vinyls I'd be happy for anyone to take off my hands. I made the switch to Compact Disc pretty late after starting to build the collection, which I later regretted very much. Some vinyls I later replaced with the CD versions when I found them cheap second-hand somewhere, with other shows I waited until a revival came round later. PS: I also have that signed Cinderella vinyl I somehow got into the hype when the show was first announced, but I'm totally over it and CHF.

Well you all gave me some inspiration - had a little look on Vinted for ALW’s Cinderella and just got it brand new for £4!

I treated myself to John Wilson's Sinfonia of London recording of Oklahoma! before Christmas. High quality vinyl, limited run and signed by the conductor. Cost an arm and a leg but very pleased with it.

Just seen a new limited edition blue vinyl release for Hadestown to celebrate its London opening that I have my eye on, Just seen it’s £10 more expensive direct from the theatre compared to HMV - I now own it from there and it’s beautiful! It’s the best vinyl I own so far. 3x Blue Vinyl discs, a photo book, cases for all discs all in a beautiful hard box case and a paper wrap around for the London Premier 2024. Well worth it when you consider the price of a normal vinyl new.
