On December 11, I attended the one-off concert performance of Maltby and Shire's new musical adaptation of The Country Wife. Wycherley's 1675 play was updated and set in New Orleans in 1840, during Mardi Gras. A benefit for the Red Bull Theater, the performance took place at the Symphony Space on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Due to the indisposition of one of the actors, Richard Maltby, Jr. performed the role of Pinchwife. The audience included F. Murray Abraham, Andre De Shields, and many other notables from New York's theatrical community. A great evening at the theater! Hopefully the musical will get a more extended run at some point. www.broadwayworld.com/off-broadway/article/Exclusive-Photos-Inside-Red-Bull-Theaters-Presentation-of-Maltby-and-Shires-THE-COUNTRY-WIFE-20231215
