Starring Steve Carrell, Alison Pill, Alfred Molina and others, starting April 24th. I haven’t enjoyed either of the versions of this I’ve seen in London and I wouldn’t go all the way there just to see this but part me is looking at that cast and thinking ‘wow’ 🤣

It was not good. Bland choices throughout. Carell was schticky and is not a theatre actor. Pill was a bizarre woman-child mess. Molina was on autopilot. Anika was simply there. Harper was the best of a sorry bunch. I really like the play itself but this version just felt like it brought nothing to the table. An empty feast.

I’m not sure how much of an expert Keith McNally (owner of Balthazar and Minetta Tavern in NYC, amongst others) can lay claim to be, but on his Instagram page today, he says he has seen many productions of Uncle Vanya, and while loved the Donmar version with Simon Russell Beale, Helen McCrory and Mark Strong, this is the best version he’s seen so I guess it’s one of those subjective things.

He sounds very neutral I mean I can seeeeeee potentially why people like it. It's OTT and the cast is stacked. But I was with people a little bit more experienced than him and none of us cared for it.
