I'm going against popular opinion and say that I don't like this musical. OK I've only seen the film on TV and found it really boring with only a couple of decent songs. Don't know how different the stage show is. Agree. Also the dodgy misogyny in it is deeply unpalatable in todays age. A really boring choice of show to revive.

Count me in as part of the 'less-enthused' crowd. And didn't we just have a revival of this at The Old Vic not all that long ago?
It has a handful of great Cole Porter tunes but alas, some not-so great ones in the show within a show sequences.
Will give this one a miss no matter who they put in it.

Yeah it's not a show I think I'd rush to see. Enjoy the movie from time to time but otherwise a one and done.
I can completely see Minnie Driver act it perfectly, but sing it? She had to be dubbed in the Phantom movie.

I love the score, but i like old fashioned sh!t. Due to its themes its difficult to stage it in a way that is respectful but doable, to me thats part of the fun - Im looking forward to see this on stage again.

Oh I love Kiss Me Kate - gorgeous score (So In Love, Wunderbar, I Hate Men, Always True To You, Too Darn Hot? Come on now)
Driver a bit of a wild choice but I'd certainly go.

Can’t believe I actually guessed one of these correctly.

I'm excited. I saw the Waddingham/Nunn production at Chichester and just thought it was heavenly. I remember most of the numbers bringing the house down.
It was the first time I'd seen her and didn't realise what a star she was. And now, thankfully, IS.

Adrian Dunbar is odd casting. I hope he can do better than he did in Hamlet at the Young Vic. On the other hand, Stephanie J. Block is wonderful casting. Curious to see which version of the book they'll use and how much they are going to tinker with it.

Adrian Dunbar is absolutely bizarre casting! Can he even sing?
Stephanie J B has made me interested to see it
This production was due to be directed by someone else , and star Driver. That clearly went wrong and this version replaces it.

Dunbar is very peculiar casting for this role. Curious as to how Block will sing it too.

Dunbar is very peculiar casting for this role. “There's only one thing I'm interested in and that is putting on a musical version of Taming of the Shrew”

Hasn’t that role always been played by someone… obviously attractive/hunky?

He surely is different from the golden-voiced and matinee-idol-looking Brian Stokes Mitchell, Brent Barrett and Will Chase.

Some of us might have seen Adrian Dunbar in the musical Lady in the Dark with Maria Friedman at the National Theatre in 1997... presuming it's the same person! I can't recall how much he sang in that - will have to dig the cast recording out later.

It's odd that they're listing this as Adrian Dunbar's musical theatre debut when I saw him do Lady in the Dark with Maria Friedman at the National nearly thirty years ago! (What was that awful detective thing he did a few years ago when he sang at the end of every episode? Jo Riding was the only thing that made it worthwhile. )

I remember Adrian Dunbar back in the early 1990s as a charismatic lead in the film Hear My Song, a whimsical biopic of Josef Locke and his tax problems. I suspect that charm can carry him a long way in this. And I think that the fun that he will have with it will make for an enjoyable time for the audience. I think we may just have to mentally banish the comparisons with Howard Keel!

Im guessing the older man casting will be a metaphor for dated sexist attitudes ?

Adrian was in the drama Ridley fairly recently and sung quite a bit in that too.

I think the Barbican are hoping for another summer hit after the success of Anything Goes, and who can blame them?
Depending on its success (maybe) this too may be filmed for future release.

I love the score to pieces. But not with this casting.
Dunbar might be ok as the General or one of the gangsters. But he isn't a Fred/Petruchio

Had also heard this was going to be Minnie Driver directed by Kathleen Marshall so its an entirely different creative/cast to what I'd been told before Christmas!
Love SJB, and she'll be great fun - I am not convinced by AD though at all - he'd be fine as one of the Brush Up Your Shakespeare guys but FRED?! I want someone with the vocals of Stokes!!
