What's to re-master? The film hit the screen less than 11 years ago... Quite. It was already remastered for Imax Digital (but not Imax 70mm iirc) at the time of its original release, and I saw it in Imax at what is now the Vue Printworks in Manchester. ew.com/article/2012/12/04/les-miserables-opening-select-imax-theaters/Digital does not degrade, so I've no idea what sort of remastering they think is needed now. |

I'd rather they remastered Russell Crowe out completely and put Earl Carpenter in instead while they're at it. I also wouldn't mind it if they digitally made Russell and Hugh swap places, making Hugh act and sing as Javert (I believe he'd make a decent one, unlike Russell) and Russell ACT as Valjean, dubbing him with someone who can actually sing. That would be nice, too, I believe. |

We went to see this last night at our local pictures. I couldn't work out what exactly was 'remastered' as it seemed exactly the same as I remembered... including Russell Crowe 🫤

I couldn't work out what exactly was 'remastered' as it seemed exactly the same as I remembered... including Russell Crowe 🫤 I could find very little information about what they've done apart from remixing the Dolby Atmos and improving the colour grading/contrast for Dolby Vision, so, unless you saw the new film in an auditorium featuring either of those, I suspect you had the same experience as on first release. Just seems to be largely a marketing gimmick to boost the Cameron Les Mis franchise generally. |

Saw this today in one of the newer Showcase screens. The remastering is quite significant in some scenes. The 'lovely ladies' scene has more contrast in the darker hues as does the sewer scene. Most noticeable for me was the use of Dolby Atmos in the scene were Valjean seeks a safe house and discovers the nuns chanting. This sounded incredible. Also, 'Stars' actually sounded really good with the new sound mix. This was a major disappointment for me first time round but they've salvaged a lot from the wreckage, albeit that Crowe's weak vocal is swelled by some judicious orchestral mixing.
I'm glad I went to see it - if you see it in the right cinema (or home set up eventually), this has really had some time and love spent on it. A significant improvement on the original which was already pretty good.

Glad to hear some other feedback about the remastering. We saw it in our local Cineworld and it was shown on one of the smallest screens in there (probably a good choice for the cinema as there were less than 10 people in our sitting)- perhaps why I didn't notice much in terms of any difference. However, I did still really enjoy seeing it again and it was only £5 a ticket so not a bad night out!
