Talks with Billie Piper have fallen thorough, will not lead. The production has been looking around for different theatres and at the moment seems to be the August Wilson. They desperately need a well known star to justify high ticket prices but it also seems they aren't willing to pay a lot of money... Micaela diamond for Sally I hear...

I would have liked for someone more well-known, a major revival like this should have more starpower. She previously played Sally back in 2016 so she knows the role.

Billie Piper is not a name in NYC at all, and the August Wilson is way too big for Cabaret. It will go to the Hudson, which is smaller and an ATG theatre *cough*

Eddie Redmayne will be the star power, as he was in London. Jesse Buckley isn't exactly a big name here, so no surprise if they do go with Micaela.

There is a big hint on Twitter that it may be Eva Noblezada. But not sure if that’s just some friend’s wishful thinking. She would sing it brilliantly but not sure that’s what this production prioritises in a Sally.

Having seen Diamond in Parade there is no need to worry about her casting in my opinion (she also sounds better in the theatre than on the cast recording. Not sure if she was sick or something).

Oh I'm sure she'll be 'fine' - but Sally shouldn't be fine

I also want to say it’s a completely different world in NYC as many know and someone like Jessie Buckley could quickly create career problems for herself and the show if she missed as many performances in Cabaret as she did in the West End. On Broadway you need to actually turn up for work and if you’re above the title the producers also put themselves at financial risk (not that she is a massive name, but she is an Oscar nominee now). The west end work ethic* and shady producing tactics will not stand in that market. So it’s probably best she isn’t transferring and put herself through that.
* not to suggest US culture is a good thing. They work you to death in many industries.

I'm intrigued how they'll replicate the Kit Kat Klub in the August Wilson, it's bigger space than the Playhouse.

It’s Wild Party all over again.

At least not to the same extent that they did The Playhouse. I don’t think the London version will be bettered - we’ll have been lucky to have it! My guess is theatre layout will remain more or less as is, but with stage thrust slightly forward and some seating added at sides and back of stage (probably at $400+ knowing Broadway).

Funny Girl finishes in September so there is plenty of time for them to be able to do the same thing for Cabaret since it's not opening until the Spring.

Without rehashing it again after all this time, How do you know it was her work ethic or did she have the time out agreed with the producers, and they then just kept their mouths shut about it? Also it's not that differenton Broadway, you only have to read the various US based boards and websites to know that some leads are often out. i think the difference is in the US, the producers are more likely to announce when someone is out, rather than just disappoont the audoence if they came to see a specific performance.

Talk of a theatre work ethic reminds me of the fuss when Dame Diana Ring criticized Lauren Ambrose for cutting her workload during Lincoln Center's production of My Fair Lady a few years ago. Dame Diana said: " I'm flying the old flag for a generation of actors who performed even when they were at death's door," said the 80-year-old actor, who herself powered through a torn vocal cord during her 1994 Tony Award-winning performance in Medea. www.theatermania.com/broadway/news/broadway-shockers-2018-my-fair-lady_87349.html/

Well I’d say having lived here for years now and having seen hundreds of shows in NYC and the West End I usually can bet more on seeing the leads in a show in NYC than the west end, at least anecdotally. However, I take your point that it can be hard to distinguish between unplanned vs planned absences if the issue is that the producers just simply don’t tell the audience in advance. And it’s possible due to her juggling career interests Jessie Buckley was given time off. In which case I feel it’s so so unfair of the producers for both the audiences and Jessie Buckley. And I guess it comes back to: shady producing tactics (which definitely are not lawful with advertising regulation in the UK). It’s very clear and explicitly stated you cannot hide behind T&Cs you have to find hidden and scroll in long documents.

Nevermind it’s not Micaela Diamond, she is now doing the last Sondheim show. It’s someone quite unexpected, a bit of a wildcard. She was involved with the 2014 Broadway revival and is a small star in the film/tv world. The first name to spring to mind with that description is Gayle Rankin, but I believe she’s attached to the second season of HBO’s Game of Thrones spin-off, so I’m probably wrong!

House of Dragon finished scripts long ago and started filming in April, so they should be done soon enough for her to do Cabaret. SAG strike is not affecting filming.

It is going to be Gayle Rankin, and I suspect she will be fabulous.
