I'm a bit reluctant to say Tom Hardy because he wasn't exactly unknown when did The Man of Mode. It says 'hit the big time' rather than unknown though? Tom hardy at the time was only just starting to be known thanks to some TV work and that low budget film he did set in London with multiple actors (forget the name). But he certainly wasn't a star or famous, kind of proved by how badly the play sold.

Andy Serkis (and Lorraine Ashbourne, who is now his wife) in the title role in a Hungarian musical called 'Doctor Heart' at the Royal Exchange in Manchester in 1991. Also at the Royal Exchange, Kate Winslet as Geraldine in a production of 'What The Butler Saw' (1994), and Hugh Grant as Eric Birling in 'An Inspector Calls' (1986). I think you win this thread. Has Hugh Grant done any other stage acting?

He'd done a few things at the Nottingham Playhouse and in fringe venues before that, but I think 'An Inspector Calls' was his last stage credit.

Kate Winslet with one play to her name and so early in her career is a great one to have seen. But I admit I never knew Hugh had ever done any theatre work and his stage foray was well before Kate's so probably edges it. I wonder if the director of that play told a young Hugh to "Be yourself" and the rest is history.

Apparently Sarah Snook was in the Master Builder before Succession Yes, at the Old Vic in 2016 with Ralph Fiennes. At that point she'd just started graduating from Australian to U.S. film roles. I'm a bit reluctant to say Tom Hardy because he wasn't exactly unknown when did The Man of Mode. It says 'hit the big time' rather than unknown though? But he certainly wasn't a star or famous, kind of proved by how badly the play sold. He'd had one major film role playing the villain in Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) but I'd agree he hadn't hit the big time yet.
