Saw this earlier, and to be honest I found it a lot more enjoyable than I was expecting: some of the effects were a bit shoddy (a cat woman (that is supposed to be a cross between a cat and a woman rather than a Batman style woman wearing cat ears) and her cat baby offspring (for want of a better term) being the chief offenders, and yes it does end up as a big cgi dust up but it was good fun, I liked all of the actors that took part in it (big shout to Hugh Grant and Rege-Jean Page in particular) and I actually ending up caring about what happens to the characters by the end.
For those of you of a more musical leaning, yes there are a couple of songs in this but I don’t think Chris Pine will be singing show tunes on Broadway any time soon.

I think making DnD an action comedy was a stroke of genius because a lot of fantasy tends to be quite po faced whereas this film embraces its fun side.

I can't stand the pompous tone of so many fantasy and also superhero movies that take themselves terribly serious. This was good fun instead, often consciously taking the p** I thought, especially with the hilariously fat dragon and the clash between Chris Pine's snotty character and Regé-Jean Page's over-earnest and effortlessly superior Paladin. Glad to see him move on to good roles after that pile of nonsense Bridgerton and also good to see Michelle Rodriguez playing a properly ass-kicking warrior woman after spending so much time as sexist eyecandy in the Fast & Furious franchise.
