I thought for historical purposes it might be interesting to make a list of theatre stuff that was changed/cancelled/postponed 'because of Covid'.
City of Angels in the West End - started and closed promptly.

Timothee Chalamet's London debut in 4000 Miles, which will have a different production in Chichester, with Eileen but no Chalamet
Sunday with Jake Gyllenhall must be the biggest casualty tho

Sister Act - Whoopi Goldberg was to reprise Delores, which then got pushed back a year, before dropping out altoghether.
The Pillowman - originally to star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, he has been replaced by Lily Allen. (And having seen him posing for Vogue I’m even more disappointed now.)
The Contingency Plan, a double bill co-production between the Donmar and Theatr Clwyd, ended up going to Sheffield (I think?) instead.
Assassins has reappeared on the schedule at Chichester three years later.
Cilla was supposed to go out on tour again, but with Sheridan Smith.
Jamie Lloyd’s season at the Playhouse fizzled out when The Seagull had to close mid-run, with ATG redeveloping the theatre into the Kit Kat Klub. Reopened at the Pinter (?), but in the meantime Jessica Chastain decided that while she still wanted to do A Doll’s House, she’d rather do it on Broadway.
A Kenwright tour of The Sound of Music was scrapped. New production coming from Chichester.

Just remembered West Side Story was supposed to return for a second run at the Royal Exchange. Postponed originally, but three years on and no mention of it. Had it gone ahead it would apparently have been the first production to ever get a second run there.
There was a musical loosely based on Brewster’s Millions being developed at Storyhouse in Chester. Hollie McNish’s Antigone, which this was originally paired with in rep, has already been staged on it’s own and this hasn’t been mentioned since. Apart from the three shows they do at a popup open air theatre in the summer, they seem to have moved away from the rep model.

The Pillowman - originally to star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, he has been replaced by Lily Allen. (And having seen him posing for Vogue I’m even more disappointed now.) Have you ever seen him actually attempt to act? You're not missing a thing...just look at the pretty pictures and pretend he's moving in them...

There was a production of A Christmas Carol at the Dominion Theatre in December 2020 starring Brian Conley as Scrooge (I believe Jacqueline Jossa was making her west end debut too). It had social distancing and temperature checks as covid precautions. I think it only ran for maybe a week or so before it had to close because London was brought into tier 3 lockdown, so I was very lucky to have seen it!

National Theatre:
Phaedra (in a new version by Simon Stone) - originally slated with Kristin Scott Thomas in the lead role; it’s currently running at the Lyttelton with Janet McTeer. I really hope the NT will have a broadcast edition of the play for those outside the UK. I’m so intrigued by the new version.
Manor (written by Moira Buffini, directed by her sister Fiona) - Ben Daniels was originally cast as Ted, the right-wing leader, opposite the character of Diana, played by Nancy Carroll. The cast was already in rehearsals when the pandemic happened, so their April 2020 opening was postponed. Ben eventually dropped out of this role and did take on the lead for The Normal Heart, which was slated for a February 2021 run but was moved to September. Manor was staged on November, but with Shaun Evans playing Ted. Which I guess in hindsight, Ben made a good decision, since The Normal Heart gave him so much acclaim and an Olivier nomination.
The Old Vic
Lungs - the Claire Foy-Matt Smith two-hander play which was supposed to be at St. Anne’s Warehouse in Brooklyn in spring 2020 after the OV run in 2019. Instead The Old Vic did a livestream broadcast of the play and raised funds for COVID. I really wish OV: In Camera stayed in a long-term capacity, like what the NT is doing with NT Live and NT at Home.

Because of Covid we got the socially distanced remount of JCS with the phenomenal rotating cast, which got me through some very hard days in 2020.

The reworking of The Merchant of Venice with Tracy Ann Oberman. Was supposed to open at Watford Palace Theatre then go to Leeds Playhouse, Liverpool Playhouse, Nuffield Southampton, and Rose Theatre Kingston. Three years later and it’s playing in Watford then at Home in Manchester, the other four theatres having backed out at some point,

Samuel Bailey's Shook was going to be on at Trafalgar Studios in Spring 2020 after its small tour. There was a recording made for Sky Arts, though without an audience. Lucy Kirkwood's The Welkin was cut short and didn't get its NT Live broadcast and apparently no recording (?) which is a real shame. On the other hand, Jodie Comer dropped out of Ridley Scott's Napoleon biopic when Covid pushed filming schedules into Prima Facie time.

Can't believe it's taken 20 posts to get to: Phantom's 18 month UK Tour completely cancelled weeks ahead of opening, leading to the closure of original mounting of the longest running West End musical. This in turn lead to re-staging of the show and a permanent 50% reduction of the orchestra.
Back to the Future's Premiere in Manchester was cut down from a 12 weeks run to just 3 weeks.
City of Angel's West End 7 month run ended mid-March after less than a month.
A UK Tour of Headlong's Faustus was cut in half.

I’m STILL gutted I didn’t get to see City of Angels. Was booked on 18th March, the week it all kicked off. Early in the run, but not early enough :-(

City of Angel's West End 7 month run ended mid-March after less than a month. Wow, I should really count myself lucky I saw it! I didn't enjoy it that much, which is probably why I've disregarded much of it from my brain!

I still think about how great our planned weekend in Manchester in late March 2020 to see the premiere of Back to the Future would have been, in an alternate world...
