My desire to see a one man Ian McKellen show is ZERO. In fact, it's ZERO MINUS ONE MILLION.
I was interested to see the show in Chichester until they announced a ballot for the £80 tickets. I thought he was all for making theatre more accessible.
It is a fundraising event too though isn't it? I do think that's slightly different.

I'll add being mugged at beak-point on a Russell Square bench by a pigeon, and relieved of my sandwich. The entire sandwich. Those beaks are larger and stronger than they look. A couple of years ago in Truro, I stood transfixed by a seagull that had somehow acquired a still-wrapped shop sandwich, in the usual triangular plastic box (where would it keep its change or bank card?) but clearly hadn't thought beyond that as it was holding it in its beak and thwacking it repeatedly against the ground to get at the contents. Presumably it had beaked it from either a cold cabinet only just inside a shop entrance, or the hands of an unsuspecting person about to open the packaging. How he plans to open the crisps is beyond me.

Stop it! Birds terrify me! I knew someone with the same phobia. I asked her is she could describe what it was that scared her about them, and she said it's mainly because they're "too fluttery". In which case, I've known some humans who'd probably freak her out as well.

It is, however, claw-your-liver-out-without-hesitationy, which may or may not be an improvement.
(Birds are many kinds of awesome.)

Apologies for assuming the gender of the seagull.

I'm in my mid 40s and found out last week that my mother, in her 70s, is scared of flappy fluttery birds. HOW did I go all this time without knowing this??

Because she didn’t want to transfer her fear to you, she no doubt swallowed the fear! I would have yelled and run from a spider in the bath many times but not in front of the kids. I would 'deal' with it. 😂

Aside from the first 17 seconds of "The Eve of the War" the Jeff Wayne "War of the Worlds" album is unlistenable bilge.
If they can resurrect Richard Burton from BEYOND THE GRAVE and have him narrate in person IN my front room then maybe I might be interested but dear god its awful stuff.

It's a double album, and to me the "double" means there are two tracks deserving of a repeat listen. There's little I remember of the rest, and what memory I have doesn't encourage refreshing it.

Have to admit, despite being an album I own and and admit to listening to every now and again, cannot for the life of me understand how Jeff Wayne’s War of The Worlds continues to draw such a large and appreciative audience.

I think RuPaul's Drag Race is a stupid talent show. Hi. I recently gave it a second chance and I.... LOVE IT. I still think it's kinda stupid sometimes, but it's such guilty pleasure material. I've seen 3 seasons (6, 7 and 10) in less than a couple of weeks. Miss Vaaaaanjie... Miss Vaaaaanjie... Miss... Vaanjie...

So I got asked to review the new Michael Sheen audio drama version of this. I download it. That son-of-a- martian is 5.5 hours long. Last night I diligently got through 90 minutes while doing various other things...only for the editor to say 'actually we've changed our mind can you review something else' Now on one had, that's 90 minutes I'm not getting back. On the other, I no longer have to listen to the other 4 hours of it. Lesson learned: I do not need WoW in my life in any way, shape or form. Especially with Michael Sheen (all I could think was 'did these Martians land in Port Talbolt...are they Banksy?!)

I do not need WoW in my life in any way, shape or form. Ah well I'm planning to see the one at the New Diorama, a production based on the Welles radio play. And I'm writing a version that consists entirely of one scene from the novel. Surely either of those could be acceptable.

Good luck with it all but ...no as above I have reconfirmed what I already knew I don't need WOW in my life. (and it's generally the spirit of the unpopular opinions thread to let people have said opinions unchallenged)

I'm in my mid 40s and found out last week that my mother, in her 70s, is scared of flappy fluttery birds. HOW did I go all this time without knowing this?? Turns out my Mum is terrified of moths, though she never let on when I was a kid and bringing caterpillars into my bedroom to feed and hatch. She's fine about other things- once brought an abandoned, fly-egg covered baby hedgehog from Lincolnshire to Liverpool by train in her bra, including a stop at Crewe or somewhere where it started wailing at the platform.

Was she wearing the bra at the time?? Yes - it was only a tiny hedgehog and the spines hadn't really come through! It lived under the fridge (the old sort with the warm gap, also favoured by the tortoise in winter) till it was big enough to be released.

To keep it warm - it was a long train journey (she's just clarified - it was Preston Station, not Crewe, where it started the high-pitched hunger squeaking - I wasn't with her but I heard it later and they really do make some unexpected sounds! Especially when coming from the bra area.)
