I’m always early to everything, but once a coach trip to My Fair Lady back in the day that was scheduled to arrive with two hours to spare ended up with us arriving midway through the Ascot scene. I was twelve and absolutely devastated but sometimes it’s just unavoidable.
My nearest miss has been thanks to a comedy of train delay horrors, where I ended up getting the best taxi ever from Paddington with a driver who took me down every side street on the way to West Side Story at Sadler’s Wells. Made it to the gods for 7:34pm but curtain was late!

There’s a precedent for Cameron Mackintosh shows that if the alternate night is Monday they’ll switch for the first week of a new cast so the lead gets first night. Happened a lot at Les Mis when the alternate night was Monday so I imagine it’s just the same here unless otherwise stated.

Belatedly, I got a rush ticket on Saturday (stalls row D, seat 5, marvellous view and lots of room) and saw this. It’s a bit of a weird one and for every moment I enjoyed there were multiple ones I didn’t. Loved the set design and the Dickens scenes.

I was also there yesterday! I adored the music going in but have never found a production as emotional and moving as this one, even from up in the gods!

I’ve booked F side block for December - it should be fine but I think the front row was just too close. Likely the same for B and potentially C. The staging of Wait For Me and Wait For Me II was phenomenal from a bit of distance and lost in dry ice in row A!

I really loved this! I went last night but earlier in the week was given a press night ticket so I’ve had two visits in the space of a week. Last night I sat in the front row £15 seats and it was far too close, Tuesday I was middle Row O of the stalls and the view was perfect for the full spectacle. I love the spin on Greek myths (didn’t need the programme to brush up on it because I’ve always enjoyed the stories), the lighting and effects were fantastic. I’d say on Tuesday I would’ve agreed with comments on the casting of Orpheus but his voice is really growing on me after the second watch, despite being incongruous to the rest of the cast in style and tone. The musicians are incredibly skilled and a joy to listen to — I actually recognised the drummer as a jazz musician I’ve seen perform a number of times. I’d say a couple of the songs don’t hit as well as others, but it’s a solid four stars from me!
I’m very happy I have another set of tickets booked for later in the run, even though I wasn’t expecting it to be the third time seeing it!

Steven McRae and Olivia Cowley (both of the Royal Ballet) also joining the cast. McGregor (choreographer) obviously knows all three of these dancers well so it could be a perfect fit!

Leanne Cope and Zoe Rainey at La Fille mal gardée last night, presumably for a former American in Paris cast member who was a fantastic Alain in the performance!

According to her Instagram post on the subject she’ll be no longer performing scheduled Royal Ballet performances until the Spring season. She’s one of my favourite dancers and well... now I’m going to have to watch this.

Saw this tonight and sometimes I found it downright bizarre but it was a lot of fun!

Watched this for a second time tonight (I was lucky enough to be at the UK premiere but felt pressure to Be Cool and not sob my way through) and I just really love this film. The cinematography is beautiful, the music and love story hit all the right emotional notes for me AND there's the cutest dog in it. I'll probably go a third time soon enough!

I looked at the Open House London site the other day and all the (free) tickets for this event were gone, it was one of the properties that required prebooking in some form. The new public spaces are open from 10am Friday according to their website.

Decided to hedge my bets this year and not go for any of the films which will likely get large releases, since I’m paying for Cineworld Unlimited I’m sure I can wait! I’ve got tickets for Thunder Road (the reviews for the short it’s based on are fascinating) so far and now just scrolling through what’s left that doesn’t have a UK distributor attached...

I’ve seen it twice already (cineworld preview on Saturday and BFI screening with a cast intro yesterday!) and absolutely adore this film. As far as rom coms go it’s top notch, and you can’t understate how important it is to have such an incredible Asian cast on screen. The setting is so beautiful and I can’t wait for the general release so I can watch it a third time!

Haven’t seen this yet so got some £15 royal circle seats on that Todaytix offer - for after Bonnie Langford starts, of course. I always find her fantastic to watch, she (& the male leads) really elevated Dirty Rotten Scoundrels for me when I saw it a few years ago. Worth waiting for her turn in this show, I hope!

I have an unlimited card for Cineworld and live near a very large cinema that shows almost everything and it’s been a godsend. I love seeing films and they discount all the live theatre things too (for example, I believe I paid £4 for Newsies) so I’ve saved a lot of money. Last year I had the card I saved almost £200, this year might be more. But I do miss the days of going to the little local cinema In Aberystwyth for £4!

Bit of a night at the Old Vic on Monday. Act One a child threw up — not the bad behaviour as sometimes you just suddenly feel unwell and I’m definitely sympathetic to that — dealt with very swiftly by the front of house team but a bit distracting. Act Two was the real one though - a different couple sat by me and then proceeded to open a bag of McDonalds takeaway! Crunched their chicken nuggets and got things in and out of the noisiest paper bags ever through all the quiet emotional scenes of the play. It was so infuriating.

Yep, that was the one I tried - found it in this thread originally! As soon as I said Hamilton it just reeled off the message and then ended the call, very annoying! Luckily their response time to the contact form was very speedy.

I can no longer go to my scheduled performance of Hamilton and I want to request a refund. Is there a way I can request my refund on the ticketmaster.co.uk site? I tried help.ticketmaster.co.uk/contact-us/ but that link isn't working anymore. Any help would be wonderful thanks I would just ring. They are super helpful...probably because they know they can resell them for £200! 😂 I tried to ring yesterday but just got a prerecorded message about Hamilton tickets not being for resale and how I could request a cancellation online. Not sure what combination I needed to use on the phone system to get a human being at Ticketmaster!

Saw this tonight, I’m a big fan of the film adaptation and read the book after seeing it and I really think A Monster Calls is one of the best depictions of childhood grief and loss I’ve ever come across. With these high hopes I’m happy to say that the stage adaptation did not disappoint. It’s imaginative and heartbreaking and I adored it. The role of “Mum” was played by an understudy tonight and she was excellent, the whole cast were.
I sat in row E in a £10 seat and had an excellent view, a little head-dodging as there wasn’t enough rake to compensate for the tall person in front of me but I can’t really fault the seat for the price.

Yes - she’s playing Esmeralda.
I believe they did a cover run with Christine Allado as Eliza recently, presumably to fill this gap if needed. Marsha has no more scheduled Eliza dates (she had a lot due to the time Rachelle Ann Go took off for her wedding) which is a shame, she was truly my favourite in the role!

I was also there last night and probably going to join you in the grump corner as while the excitement was fun and infectious to a point it did get a bit excessive and whooping at reaaaaally inappropriate moments was a bit awkward. It was a really fun night and they brought my favourites from the workshop performances back so I really enjoyed it!
