They've had some v.good stuff (Death of a Salesman, the Twelfth Night Musical, Fun Home) and some interesting misses (like Collaboration). They manage to keep their ticket prices reasonable, which also makes me more willing to have a go at what's on. I'm booked to see Beneatha's Place later this month - but it sounds like it's going to be one of their interesting misses.

Ah Steve I love the play you describe but I'm afraid I'm in the WTF group. I love scary plays and funny plays and insightful ones too but this was so tepid that I couldn't really describe it as any of those things. There was some good dialogue (Mr Foxa appreciated the absolute authenticity of the fish and chips scene), liked the performances (particularly Sue Jenkins who really was wonderful) and the set design was effective. But there didn't seem to be any dramatic motor powering it along and I have no idea what it was trying to say. Possibly some mishmash about technology/climate changes/families/women on their own? But instead of journeying down new paths on any of those themes, the play just treated them as familiar cul de sacs. (Yes, people look at their mobiles a lot; yes people who preach about climate change can be hypocrits; certainly mothers and daughters don't always communicate well.) Most puzzling. Star-wise - possible 2-1/2

Last two orders I did with the NT I wasn't sent e-tickets. The confirmation came through and I can see the tickets on my NT account. I suppose I can just use those? There is a QR code. This happen to anyone else?

When we saw it, Reith seemed a bit flubby - we weren't entirely sure if he was having an off night or if it was a suggestion of a stammer, but it didn't add to the performance.

Quite a surprise they would do Ghosts and quite a long run too. Joe Hill-Gibbins directs with the threat that it is “a new version”. I was interested, then you pointed out the guy who directed Edward II at the NT, that muddy Midsummer Night's Dream at the Young Vic, and Richard II at the Almeida. Thanks for saving me any more interest in this! Yes, but....he also directed my favourite Glass Menagerie (this was a truly splendid version) and a really entertaining Measure for Measure.

Looks like a tough season to sell,so discounts upfront not a bad idea.I've had a couple of rough evenings at Mullarkey's plays (Pity and George and the Dragon),though you can't fault his ambition.

I am in the 2.5 gang too. Just didn't take off for me, though I liked some of the staging a lot.

I was in the 800s got 2 mid-stalls seats - unfortunately not together, but nice seats - for the Friday night. Slight glitch at the payment section where it froze but got it done in the end.

I booked for this at the Young Vic despite being a bit meh about the name. However heard the playwright Kimber Lee on the Subtext Podcast and liked her SO MUCH that I'm now much more excited about seeing it. (Absolutely slanted towards American playwrights, the Subtext is an entertaining listen if for nothing else than the host - a struggling playwright himself - vividly conveying his frustration and angst at the writing process and the business of theatre. Kimber Lee spends quite a bit of this episode trying to make him feel better. :-)) www.americantheatre.org/2022/11/22/the-subtext-kimber-lee-isnt-cagey-about-her-process/

All of it
Best thing I've seen at the Court for a while. Particularly liked the second piece 'In Stereo' - in the best possible way it was like an art installation/short story/aural experience mash up. Kate O'Flynn's stamina and skill were extraordinary. And then I loved her wide open smile at the curtain call.

I was there this afternoon too. I had originally hesitated to book because I have seen SO MANY productions of R&J, but I really admire Frecknall's work so...And it was really good. Thought Isis Hainsworth as cavocado says was particularly good - familiar lines suddenly very fresh, always engaging. But also agree the costumes, particularly hers, with the knee highs and unflattering jacket and skirt weren't great. Just didn't get that choice beyond making her look very young. Ditto Lady Capulet's outfit. The movement was outstanding. Thought Mercutio was fresh and fascinating. If you know the play well, there were LOTS of cuts, including whole characters and a key plot point (I have forgotten how to do spoilers so won't say more than that.) This would be a perfect play to bring teenagers to - or anyone who thought they didn't like Shakespeare. It might convince them otherwise.

Great to read this positive review Steve - this was something I had hesitated about but eventually booked for and am now glad I did. Seeing it on the 21st.

Also loved the beautiful bias cut dresses.
A very enjoyable evening - and as I didn't know the play at all everything came as a great surprise to me!

this show also starts with a lot of men in waistcoats and top hats swinging lanterns.[ What’s the deal with this actually? I thought they would come back to mention it but there was nothing. *********************************************************************8 I know, thought I'd wandered into A Christmas Carol for a moment. There was at least one ensemble member (good dancer!) who wore that get up quite a bit - I think they were meant to be the town officials putting on a 'ye olde' type display. But the lanterns - no idea. Lyric change from 'rhino foreskin' to 'monkey foreskin' (thought rhino was better, but perhaps worried because it's endangered?) A couple of tiny technical things - the most notable a green sheet that I think was meant to drop completely at the end of the first act, but instead sort of hung there. For some reason, I didn't think Stuck worked as well as in its previous iteration, but was blown away by Hope and Seeing You. What a great deal the PWC previews are!

Thank you for the dining recommendations. Went a bit more downmarket and ended up at Honest Burger which was fine.
Finally got to see this after booking all those months ago. We were up in the cheapest seats (£19.50 last row of Circle 2) and they were great - would definitely sit there again. A lot of Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat, etc. was angled perfectly for us.
LOVED the production. Two understudies were on - and they were big roles, Sarah Brown and Nicely Nicely - but the show is so strong that there was no discernible dip. Was glad I knew from this forum about the interval entertainment, which we really enjoyed. Loved Marisha Wallace and Andrew Richardson. Can understand why people would return to see this production more than once.

Looking forward to hearing what you think! Decided in the end, despite my FOMO, couldn't do it because am going to the matinee of Guys and Dolls tomorrow and didn't want to be exhausted/rushed.

They used to do quite good food at the Bridge, but on the website it looks like they are only serving drinks now - is that right? And if so, can anyone please recommend someplace good but casual for a pre-matinee bite?

For what it's worth, for two dates in early February there are two pairs of circle seats for Under 30s only available as of a minute ago.

I was on at 9 started at 1300 but numbers went down fairly quickly - however missed out. Shows would indicate limited availability but nothing there - as said above by cavocado went through every date. Alas. But got two tix for Clyde's.

A lot of us there - I caught the matinee yesterday and really enjoyed it. I feared my cheap seats, in the circle slips, would spoil it for me, but actually the front of circle slips were better than I expected.
Loved Johnny Flynn and the exploration of ego and shame. Some strong supporting performances, such as Allan Corduner as Hume Cronyn and, as mentioned above, Janie Dee as Eileen Herlie. It takes a little while to warm up and I wondered how it would go down if you didn't know or care who the characters were and/or aren't keen on Shakespeare. (It made me want to read the books the play was based on.) At least one before curtain scene seemed stuck on and was transparently used to cover a set change. But overall, it was an elegant production and I was happy to have seen it.

I was glad to have seen this after missing its Downstairs run. I thought it was a pretty impressive play/production - though aspects of the relationship were frustrating to me (perhaps I felt a bit of what greenswan mentions - certainly I didn't identify with the characters) but I was held by it. The way it twists an almost meet-cute beginning into something deeper and more desperate; the unreliability of their accounts; the rapid-fire dialogue and scene changes and then somehow sticking the landing of what I thought was a difficult ending. Plus Kate Bush's Hounds of Love.

My husband got the alert and I, two rooms away, didn't. Phone was on, etc., slightly worse reception where I was but still.... Expect a 'Not needed on voyage' message anytime now. :-)
