When I first started seeing shows in the West End, you'd always be able to get into a show on a cheap ticket (as long as it wasn't a big hit show), but those days seem to be over now.
There don't seem to be any less flops though (or any more hits for that matter)

Let's not forget (when it started) Coronation Street
And for something contemporary: Happy Valley

Couldn't they have persuaded Julia McKenzie?
(I know, I know, the obvious answer is "obviously not...")

Would be interested to know how the producers intend to make money on this. I assume they're spreading the costs of the West End run around and the tour costs since they'd never make a profit if they were just running in the West End. The difference in the Equity minimum alone is enough to put most producers off.

Saw this today with about 15 other people (circle) and 25 others (stalls).
It's alright if you want to hear some great singers sing some average rock songs.

Any sign of this slowing down? Would be good to have the Aldwych available for a new show. I too hope that everyone on "Beautiful" is unemployed soon, so that Oleanna can see a new show. Oh come off it, you know that that's not how this works. SaveSave

Why the hell is everyone going on about this closing and not Book of Mormon or Matilda. I saw this a week last Thursday and its was full, had standing ovation and everyone adored it. STOP IT PEOPLE!!! I wouldn't mind those two theatres becoming free either. SaveSave

I saw the penultimate performance of Jersey Boys at the Prince Edward at the last minute, and it was one of the best experiences I've had in the West End - and a great audience.
Haven't seen it since the transfer.

Thanks for the heads up here - managed to grab a copy.
Any love here for the ORIGINAL London Cast Recording? By far my favourite recording of the show...

For this to work, it needs a David Merrick style production.

The original recording of The Most Happy Fella is quite complete.
So are the American Premiere recordings of Evita and Sunset Boulevard.

Anybody know what construction work is going on at Her Majesty's? It's currently surrounded by scaffolding (the kind that has a picture of the building on the front).

This show has done much better than a lot of people (myself included) were expecting when it first came in.

Surprised that this is running at the Arts, and not in a bigger West End house with a cast like this. Perhaps they hope for a transfer?

Thank you all for your thoughts and memories on this thread.
I had no idea that the Regent's Park production happened!
I've been trying to think about who would make a great Professor Harold Hill now, and I'm thinking...Jamie Parker...?
