Also makes you wonder what the next big terrorist threat will be, since there will certainly be one - Cornish nationalists? Bahai extremists? No need for any "next big threat". Just one individual, acting for whatever reason, is enough.

What note do you hear if a piano falls down a hole in the ground? That's a key, not a note.

Was it end-on at Wilton's? The Tobacco Factory Theatre is in the round with only about eight rows so maybe these productions have a different impact when they're toured?

Does anyone know why there is no performance between 27/9-15/10? The final stage rehearsals, previews and opening performances of St George and the Dragon will be then in the Olivier Theatre. After this, Follies and St George and the Dragon will play in rep together.

I assume that no one here went to the Foyles event a couple of weeks ago.
Last night's Festival of Ideas event at Bristol Old Vic was very satisfactory. In an unrushed hour, a lot of ground was covered with some resonance. As Tom Morris was an NT Associate for so many years, he knew exactly how to play Nicholas Hytner for the best benefit of the occasion. I expect that Simon Russell Beale will be able to do similarly tonight at the NT, but in a different key.
Last night was definitely one of those sessions where you come out with much more respect for and understanding of the subject. No one asked any challenging questions but it felt that we were genuinely probing the aspects that were discussed.

...but I shall be voting as after the election they will be spouting figures about % of vote gained by each party in the whole country....so if I can show that I support a party, even in this minor way that will not change my MP, then I will! Yes, and people who aren't interested and are happy not to participate in elections should be free to show this by not voting. I know that some people prefer to show it by spoiling their ballot paper.

But PR should be in place, so every vote counts In the 2011 referendum, the UK electorate voted to continue to use the "first past the post" system. We have PR in the Welsh Assembly elections. It has given us Neil Hamilton as the leading UKIP Assembly Member.

The right to vote is equal. That doesn't mean that everyone should be forced to exercise their right.
The effect of each vote is certainly not equal. Most people's votes make no difference to the outcome.

On balance I've come to believe that such debates are a bad idea, running the risk of people not engaging with issues, just on how somebody performs. Not a bad thing. I shall take both into consideration when I vote.

Actually, while it was very intense just like seeing it live, the cinema broadcast definitely alters how one perceives the show. When Imelda acts, she acts for the theatre. That's to say that she is extremely exaggerated, animated and shouty. She was also like that in conversation with Andrew Marr on Sunday morning television.

What time do you leave on the 12th, as I am doing Mamma Mia dress rehearsal in the afternoon and unknown in the evening, so can work around your life if you wanna meet up My flight home is around 3, so will be heading to the airport around 12.30, so dont really have much time. Why not have a TheatreBoard breakfast meet up? Oh no, I expect that's the time for softball warm up training.

When I've returned tickets to the Royal Opera House in person, they've filled out a chit as described by xanderl which I think I had to sign. As Alexandra says, it just depends on the individual theatre's procedure. The ROH procedure is very efficient with its reimbursement if the ticket is resold, and the procedure feels a bit cumbersome but it does ensure that you understand the theatre's conditions for accepting the ticket to offer for resale. Obviously xanderl would probably have understood anyway, but many casual theatregoers might otherwise have wrongly assumed either that the theatre was buying back their ticket or that it would be straightaway offered to the next purchaser!

Yes, the annual two-play season is always co-produced by Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory (stf), which is still led by founding director Andrew Hilton, and Tobacco Factory Theatres, which is a producing and presenting venue.
This year, Andrew Hilton directed Tartuffe (and co-wrote the new version) and Richard Twyman directed Othello as a guest director and his company (ETT) co-produced the tour of Othello, after the Bristol run.
I recall reading an interview with Andrew Hilton where he said he din't generally plan to re-direct any Shakespeare plays he'd previously directed, but I could well have misremembered exactly what he said.
Even with guest directors, the stf productions all share a recognisable approach to performing the classical plays.
EDIT: I see that Baemax says that Andrew Hilton has now left. I wasn't aware of that, and he was still artistic director on 20 Feb 2017 when the plans for the autumn season, from 2018, were announced.

And the weird bit which I've never experienced before - they emailed me a PDF form of their terms and conditions, which I had to print out, fill in, sign, scan and mail back to them. Presumably you'd have already checked the Terms & Conditions box, at the time of purchase, if you'd booked online, so I'm guessing you booked in person to avoid the booking fee? Hence the need to sign it at this late stage?
