"There are no dance numbers, power ballads, lavish sets, or cute romantic storylines. By entering the West End, ‘Opening Night’ is almost inevitably inviting an audience that will be confused by it. And yet: there’s a palpable warmth to it. Maybe it’s a musical, maybe it isn’t, but under all the avant-garde bells and whistles, it unquestionably has a heart" Amen to that.

My point is that it *may* have been done before but the general/casual theatre goer will not realise that and assume they are copying. That was certainly my thought when I watched it, before reading some of the background information on this thread.

I don't think a decent seat in the stalls at a west end theatre for £80 is unreasonable? I paid that myself for a front stalls seat at previews. I don't think you would get a view as good for that price at many west end theatres these days. Preview or not.
My main problem with the show was some of the staging. Yes, some of this camera work may have been done before but I haven't seen it. Any other time I think they could have got away with it but straight after Sunset Boulevard makes it seem like they are copying. Especially when you add in the outdoor scene and filming backstage etc.
The red curtain was very much overused.
The ensemble were very much underused. They must be bored out of their tree. What a shame they could not have given them more to do than sit/stand and stare.
It wasn't all bad. I didn't love it but I certainly didn't hate it. I thought Sheridan was fantastic and it was definitely worth seeing for her alone in my opinion.

Same here, went early and paid a lot for seats. Though am tempted to go again just to see if they’ve pulled it together! I saw the first preview that was a total mess ,so I wrote to the theatre and they offered me tickets at a vastly reduced rate so I could see the finished article! I also wrote to the producers who were just damn right rude!! If you wrote to them to let them know what a "total mess" their show was I am not sure what reaction you were expecting?

Well I may be in the minority here but I very much enjoyed it. Affordable tickets, keeping a theatre open for a couple of nights that would normally be dark and a really wonderful cast.

I am really not a fan of a cast for a month in town and then another in the regions. It must be a right pain for everyone involved.

I find ticket prices increasingly confusing.
Every website/email seems to be offering different prices and "offers".
I have not got the energy to search through them all for the best price. It also makes me reluctant to book anything full price in advance as I know there will be discounts later on.

Previous productions of this show have left me cold but I really enjoyed this.
Christina Bianco and Dianne Pilkington were a dream pairing. I just wished they had been on stage more, but this is not the witches story. It is Dorothy's. Georgina Onuorah portrayed her beautifully.
I thought the trio of Jason Manford, Ashley Banjo and Louis Gaunt worked really well together.
Really liked the costumes and panto-like campness of the whole thing.
There was a projection just after the "house move" which introduced Dorothy's new friends and I hated it. We know who they are. We don't need an explanation!
Will be interested to see who the cast will be taking this out on tour!
An all in one programme/brochure (rehearsal pics only) is £12 and has a nice glittery cover (for those who like that kind of thing). Other merchandise available includes several t shirts, socks of the Ruby slippers, a nice plastic sippy cup, magnet and keyring.

I saw this ay the weekend, first trip to Sadlers Wells. I am another huge fan of the last production and I loved this! I thought Ruthie Henshall was fantastic and Nicole-Lily Baisden an absolute star.
The staging great. Of course it is the touring version so how could it match the heights of Drury Lane, but they really put on a fantastic spectacle. I very much enjoyed it. Still a really beautiful show.

I would love to see this if only for Kerry Ellis but the prices... would it really hurt to do some tickets under fifty pound in the stalls?! Just some!

In recent years they have been performing as a three but then one of them dropped out so they recruited one of the S Club Juniors to make a trio.

Ouch, I'm working so thought of going to one of the other venues on what was going to be a tour but found they'd all been quietly taken off sale. Yeah I was booked for the one in Salford and had paid for travel and accommodation that couldn't be refunded so had a lovely mini break there anyway.

I certainly don't think she merits celebrity treatment! These "oh look a celebrity is in" promo amuses me.The same with press nights. Does some random actor from Coronation Street saying they enjoyed their free night at the theatre really translate to any extra sales?

I finally saw this earlier in the week and really enjoyed it.
The fanbase really are crazy though aren't they. I don't follow any of them on Twitter but they keep popping up regardless. Currently arguing amongst themselves on twitter about why Jordan doesn't leave by the stage door and blaming other groups of fans for this. My favourite comment about another fan was "I see this person everytime i am there". So you are complaining someone is there as much as you... OK.... the reason he avoids the stage door is all of you I imagine!

I would hazard a guess that performers know more about a stage they perform on than those who never step foot on it.

I'm sure most pantos have the same recurring gags every year, I know my local panto does and there would probably be riots if they didn't.

People love to be noticed by people, especially famous people. I don't think they even care if it is positive attention or negative attention. They are getting attention.

Absolutely loving the casting announcement today but also feeling a bit sad that there increasingly seems to be a bit of a trend of a cast being announced for London but then a different cast altogether trailing around the regions.

One £72 seat left for the 19th July but apart from that there's nothing left for under £100 for the Savoy run now.

Well done Theatre Tokens and the National Lottery 👏

The speculation is only being done by a handful of people on the internet and really is not worthy of being responded to by any official account.

I really don't get it with the constant changes in Elphaba. In the good old days the cast were pretty reliable from memory and those in leading roles did by and large do most of their shows that were scheduled. I await to be proved wrong by those who know better than me, I just know whenever I saw it I saw who was scheduled to be on in leading roles. In those days we weren't living through a global pandemic though.

Ten years is nothing.
The same shows seem to go round and round again every single year.
I really hope this does well.

Literally said a couple of days ago to someone that Laura Pick was going to come back to cover within the next couple of weeks. I think I have actual magical powers. Not really. Wicked were down to their last Elphaba cover. It was pretty obvious a previous cast member was on standby backstage. Although if you want to give us the winning lottery numbers feel free Also everyone feel free to judge Alexia at the end of her contract, but also give the girl a break. Life gets in the way sometimes, as it does for us all. If Wicked thought her anyway an unreliable performer they would not have asked her back for her third run.
